My car's common as muck. I live in the Surrey postal area of SW London (Surrey address but still get to vote for the mayor).
We looked at buying a house which turned out to be on the city boundary (house and garden in London but if you walked out the garden's back gate you were in Surrey county) but settled for the house we're now in.
Took the dog for a walk in a local park tonight , with a torch to help clean up his business. To my surprise he stepped on a phone hidden in the grass, switching it on. Took it home and arranged for its owner to collect it. Surprised somewhat. the dog's not exactly much of a "retreiver", rather like at least one dog described here recently. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Ah, PN, you missed my earlier post - they'll never get near my house because I work in the public sector and therefore I (or one of my legion of servants) will be patrolling and constantly monitoring over my house and its huge grounds in my gold-plated helicopter which, naturally, is fuelled by the tears of taxpayers! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Same with neighbourhood watch meetings. Publicise a meeting and you know when all the good neighbours, concerned about their security ie they have stuff worth nicking will be out.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. So someone has posted on the housing board that they've just exchanged on their house purchase and I know that he lives near me (from previous postings), I'm dying to ask where he is moving to but that sounds like a stalker doesn't it? I would imagine that he doesn't even recognise my username.
Looked through his previous posts - he puts a lot of info online.
He's moving to a 3 bed house in a picturesque village, paying about 300k. So he's leaving his area - that's not picturesque and he's not coming to mine - at that price, so he's off somewhere. At a guess I'd pick carolt's old area, but that is a guess assuming he's not going far, I could be wrong.
(When OH gets back from Oz I'll stop being so inquisitive at this time of night.)I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I've not been to Cairns; the closest I've been is Townsville.
I had a month in Aus Dec 2003. Flew into Sydney, a few days to get over the flight (stayed at Coogee Beach) and then drove from Sydney to Cairns, doing all the stops on the way like the Blue Mountains.
Spent a week in Cairns and then flew back (one way car hire, 3,000 mile put on the clock) to Sydney for New Year's Eve at the harbour.
Really interesting to see the changes as you got further north. Up in Northern Queensland, most people drink their beer out of a 'stubby' holder, a polystyrene cup holder, that keeps the beer cool and they all drink 'poofy' halves instead of pints. It's as humid as hell during the summer in Cairns, sometimes. A complete contrast to being in Palm Springs/Death Valley (America) where it is completely arid and you are as dry as a bone. I've known anything like it, where you can drink (beer) all day and not spend you time in the loo and you get up in the morning and feel no compulsion to head straight to the loo first thing.
I stayed in Townsville on the way up. I remember the aquarium, and the fact that it (Townsville, not the aquarium) had a big rock in the middle of it and I took the wife on a stroll around it. Only we took the long route, went miles out the way, passed through a real rough dodgey looking area and got a bit concerned when we saw signs for the airport only a couple of miles down the road. You know when you get close to an airport that your miles out of town. I think we walked for 4 or 5 hours that afternoon.0 -

I have a certain air about me: lost/clueless/naive/not from round here.
I wouldn't be safe wandering around on my own in a furren country.0
