my dogs are exhausted. After this mornings vile rubbishy walk I decided I wanted another so we went to the nicer but further away walh this afternoon. Two walks away from home, even if this mornings was a bit rubbish, have tuckered them out.
They are having a nap before supper and I might leave them in when I pop out to do the outside critters later.
Bombay Duck was back today for some breakfast.0 -

Is dog-dog's leg completely healed now?
Saturday we took westie to Ockham Common, next to the A3, near RHS Wisley where he found a muddy ditch, you know...with that pitch black mud, like unrefined oil. Of course he thoroughly enjoyed trampling in there and we ended up with a grey dog. It was quite hilarious, I'll post a piccy when I can. Definitely a candidate for the dirtiest westie ever.0 -

I know that area really well....with the big lake that is next to the A3 on the other side of it from wisley?
Dog-dog's leg is good. She's gog to have not quite a limp but slightly dodgy action forever I think, but she can run and jump. When she's done to much she can still feel it, and I'm sure it will have arthritis in the joint now.0 -

Yes, that's the one. A bit noisy with the A3 and M25 nearby, but he loves it there. Running up and downhill, chasing squirrels, digging in the sand,....trampling in mud0 -

The tradition is that it's fine for jobbing musicians, actors, or writers (or any one else where the name matters for business reasons) to simply keep their own name. People have been doing that for hundreds of years now.
I've kept my name mainly because I like it and I use it for work.
I'm also Dr Kool as I've worked for it to be like that.
There is also too much bother in changing names for your day-to-day life.0 -
I was happy to change my name as it moved me up the alphabet.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I would willingly have changed my name, because it's almost as boring as 'Smith.' However DW's former surname, while quite pleasant, is pronounced two ways, and even the family aren't completely consistent about the one they choose.
Perhaps we should have chosen something new and related to the area where we were married......or maybe not. I don't like the sound of 'David Mendip' at all! :rotfl:
(PS. A dying computer and general laziness have prevented me from being here much, but I've tried to keep up.)0 -

I am also Dr, although I didn't get the Dr bit until after I was married, so I've always been Dr J, not Dr B. Dr B is my dad, although if I ever do go back to being B, it'll be me, too. When I first got the PhD (well, DPhil actually), I only bothered using it where I felt it was professionally relevant, and carried on with Mrs J in other situations. After LNE filed for divorce, though, I found Mrs no longer feels right, so I use Dr all the time. It covers over all kinds of issues one might not want to have to explain - for me it's just marital status, but I heard the other day of a friend of a friend who's changing gender, and finds Dr helpful for that, too.
I'm hoping the whole DS changing name thing will blow over. For now I'm sticking to what I said last night - that I'm not altogether ruling it out but I'm not going to let him do it in a hurry. His initial psych appointment is tomorrow, so we'll see how he feels about names when he's done a lot more working through his bereavement. I may well end up telling him to wait until he's 16, which is the age when he would have been able to change it without LNE's consent if he were still alive.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
