PN...you can buy something from halfords that makes rain not stick to the windscreen. DH's firm's drivers use it and recommended it to to him. I'm sorry, I can't rememebr what its called.

    It's called a WIPER.

Actually, I just fitted new decent-quality wiper blades to our car, and it makes a helluva difference.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

43 casualties now, from the walking wounded through to critical. Still not releasing any fatality figures.

no, no, its a sort of a treatment....you have to apply it to a clean dry windscreen IIRC...which might be why dh never does ours with that stuff.

edit: my dad's car the wipers go automatically, and the lights. I find it really disconcerting, but worse is when I get back into my own. Our car feels v. high spec after the defender though!

    Is http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_222433_langId_-1_categoryId_255225 what you mean?

I need this - my car's just a cheap model and water sticks in all the wrong bits of the windscreen!

If you take it through the car wash, they often add wax to the wash, so that it comes out shiny. This then sticks to the windscreen and causes the issues you have noted.

I was on the M5 a little earlier and a little further north - driving northbound from the M4/M5 junction at about 5.30. Appalling is the right word to describe the weather conditions. I think the only time I've experienced that kind of volume of water hitting the windscreen is during a carwash when the hoses are on full power straight at you. There was a bit of fog but nothing like as bad as it seems to have been further south.

I was quite scared driving - kept thinking about how late-nearly-ex's accident was related to water on the road. I couldn't put off the journey because I needed to get home to pick up my kids. I slowed down quite a lot, and stayed in the slow lane, but there were loads of vehicles going much faster than I was. It did occur to me to consider a different route, but I thought I was safer on the motorway - late-nearly-ex's accident was a head-on collision on a single carriageway road (both cars doing 60mph so relative speed of 120mph, much higher than you should get with a central reservation). Reading tonight's news makes me feel sick. _pale_

One of the problems is that people tend to ignore the speed restriction signs the Police switch on. That's partly because the signs are often out of date, warning of hazards that no longer are there.

The other problem is that people just don't behave sensibly. It's not just some, either. Quite often, if conditions are poor and I've slowed down, I get masses of people driving past at what I consider unsafe speeds.

'cos if you drive fast you get out of the rain quicker like. So your exposed to danger for less time!;)

The other wierd thing about that stretch of motorway is that every junction is for the A38.

Also whilst strait is no doubt a word the only derivation for 'home straight' I could find was that it came from the US home stretch - no mention of navigable passages...

That A38 thing gets me too - especially seeing as one of the main roads out of Brum is the A38. When I pass these junctions, I feel cheated in that I got on a motorway, when I could've stayed on a road!

Regarding the 2nd para, that is exactly what I thought.
