It might be "fun" for you ... but think of poor, dear DH who now sees how locked into working for the man he is ... in order to pay for you to sit there and giggle :(

dh is nothing if not adventurous. HE chose the house. :) We can choose to see it as a dreadful thing, or we can enjoy the experience as part of the whole ''restoration'' thing and grin. we choose the latter...ultimately we'd rather do the latter. :)

Should always get 3 quotes and their ideas and go with what sounds the best within budget. If your not happy then, get more quotes.

There is loads of things that should be considered and especially if your looking for someone who may do a few different repairs for you.

If you get the right contractor from the start it would make it easier down the line.

yep. we've been ''interviewing'' builders and have discounted some we won't be asking for quotes. I've been to houses to look at examples of their work and have a favourite.

One of the ones we interviewed went into administration recently, they weren't our favs, but neither were they the worst of the bunch: far from it!

I never find a house I even want..... even with unlimited money I've not seen one I'd actually buy if I'd had that much. The best locations have big houses - and I want a small one; the small houses are in the worst locations.

I'd think about self-building, except the best plots are kept for big houses .......

I think my parents' house should go as a rebuild. They have the most amazing view...its truely stunning, and its just outside a ''saught after'' village ...and the house is, IMO, butt ugly. It would be the ideal situation to ''bungalow gobble''. (its not a bungalow though)

Anyone else got Halloween weather tonight?

The wind is howling (it often does here!) and the sky has had no pretty sunset but a gradually darkening dirty grey. Its a deliciousy creepy evening.

Got an awkward and moody old on my hands today ..... won't engage with anything, won't choose/decide on anything ... and things need to be moved on. But I can't bully the old, so we're at an impasse. I'm probably not being forgiven for moving out shortly .... and probably will be written out of the will because of it.... not that I care.

An old isn't like a child, you can't lay the law down, tell them that's how it is, choose for them, insist/demand and spank their bums..... so it's a whole new huge dose of annoyance to deal with.

I went to Blackpool the week before last (lovely weather), I forgot how fantastic that beach is, also went in the Dungeon (similar to the Tower of London one), there was only us in there so we copped it in each room  Also went to the top of the Tower (never done that before), 4d film (unbelievable) and see through floor on the viewing gantry. To finish off we had a great KFC (the chicken was tender in each portion).
They appear to be spending a lot of money improving the promenade and it could be pretty impressive in a year or two, got a view of this from the top of the tower and it looks really good.

    Overall, really enjoyed Blackpool.
