Oh lir, it strikes me now that the person in question is out of their depth and uses venom as their way of hiding it. Strip that all back and there'll probably be a total incompetent underneath.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

For some reason I thought you were 35 jelly. Though that may be because you told us you were 35 in the past and in my mind you are all like the Simpsons and don't age.

worryingly, he's extremely well ''ranked'' in his field (one of the top bods in Europe in the area). I have no idea if he really does know his stuff usually or whether he's one of those poeple who as you describe, makes their way up the ranks by causing fear and distraction til they are in a position where its not that they know it and say what is right, but what they say becomes accepted as right because they said it .

In anycase, its a bit of a boost for dh. :D

even if its just a date and not a relationship potential for LJ then at least it breaks the stasis of NOT dating.

LJ, have you considered interent dating? I know it doesn't sound that romantic but I know a couple of people now who have met thaway and seem pretty happy, and hey...its worked for us lot to become internet buddies, and thats a positive sign, :)

    Not necessarily correct, Viva.

I am not sure what LIR's husband does, but I have the impression he's a solicitor in a large city firm. That's a very competitive area, so it's very likely that the boss is, in fact, a very good lawyer, and that's why he was promoted to partner in the first place (or whatever).

For some branches of the law, being highly aggressive is also an asset.

Unfortunately, at some point the boss has to manage his staff. They don't teach that at law school, and he may just be incompetent at staff management, rather than totally incompetent all round.

Also, he may be so good at the lawyering part of his job that he gets frustrated by others who are not as quick as him. The others may simply not have his experience, but the boss finds it exasperating.

It's not a happy situation all round, but the root cause may in fact be that the boss is incredibly good at the law and doesn't have patience with others who are less good.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It's not the staff management issue that makes me think that though GDB. It's this sentence quoted by lir:

''well, this shows you barely read the thing and clearly didn't understand it''

If the summary was written by the person responsible for the case and he still thinks it's wrong then that suggests an issue with his understanding of law rather than his management prowess (though I still don't doubt he's a bit of a !!!!!!). Unless of course the person responsible for the case has got it all wrong, in which case I take that back and the firm will have bigger issues to deal with:eek:.

I think all of that is possible too, I agree. :). Apart from the bit about just being a perfectionist in law...if that's the origin then its spilled out into other aspects of his life because the non legal staff are terrified of him, and one of the drivers. this we learned because dh booked a taxi in his similar but not identical first name, and the driver said ''no you can't get in this is for ''x'' and on checking it was dh's car and the driver said ''oh thank god'' and told dh that the boss was a ''not very nice word''. Dh was asked if he knew him and dh very tactfully simply replied he hadn't yet worked with sadist boss very closely. re the legal work, I guess I'd say yes, but a the head of a team's reputation ius maintained by the quality of the team below him. To suggest the guy whose work was summerised hadn't understood it..not knowing it was his work, suggest a lack of understanding himself in this case. I do agree though, its pretty unlikely this is a constant.

But yeah, poor managment...both of staff and IMO other matters is worryingly typical in the experience we have had...but just of this one firm. even in business practise I see hole, so if I see holes then there are holes trucks could drive through I guess. But they are massively successful at what they do, so something goes right...maybe my holes are small after all.

n'uhuh. Hard to explain without giving too much away. This is slightly economic with the truth in order to make it anonymus enough but he wasn't on either side, he was the decision maker. His word on this IS law...atm :)
