  • Our downstairs is still manky farmer carpet in the main. Can't wait for that to go. we're having wood in the ''reception'' rooms and stone in the kitchen. Thoiugh I've been saying recently I fancy having more stone, e.g. in the dining room (so a continuation of the rest of the stone floor)but its more expensive...and then I'd want it in the study and library too I guess.

Our dogs are the security too. And dog dog is surprivsingly tough, better than big-dog. But I don't fancy her chances with a cross bow.

I don't fancy my chances, either. I'd let them steal what they wanted.

My parents have stone in the hall and three rooms downstairs (a local stone called Bethersden Marble, which isn't Marble but is from a village about 10 miles away called Bethersden), oak in the sitting room, and red local tiles in the kitchen.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

My local horse watch coordinator told me its more and more common for intruders to bring crossbows with them to ''deal with'' dogs. :(:(

    :eek::eek::eek::eek:

I am glad you followed that up with the lovely evening post LIR...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Yesterday, near Longleat, some horses were shot with guns. I tell you, we are sleepwalking into a very nasty situation in rural crime.

I get the farm watch and horse watch alerts and tbh, its enough to make one very paranoid.

It amazes me how little we hear of some of this.
A friend of mine was managing an organisation, & 1 christmas, was visited by the police asking for their external CCTV footage for an excessively violent assault on a particular day. My mate told the officer it could be got & was given a number to call.

On calling the police station, the operator asked said mate which incident the cctv footage was required in relation to. My mate gave the date & approximate time. Operator again asked which incident, in that afternoon, there were 22 serious assaults in that tiny area!

I'm going for porcelain in the utility and all the bathrooms (might have marble in the en-suite but real stone seems to be higher maintenance) then entrance hall and dining room will be tiled eventually but kitchen/dining/family room and drawing room will be solid wood - possibly something fun like white ash. I am happy with stone on entry and formal areas but prefer something more forgiving in family areas.
    I think....

Good points. My dining room will be on to the garden, and personally, I find stone easier to clean...you can give it a good scrub. But wood isn't impossible either, and is ''warmer'' and perhaps a little less austere.

I'm starting to think more about details of finishng now, and things get a bit muddled in my head about them.

And we're back to Tesco DTD .... did any of the nice people present their vouchers more than once?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2042102/Tesco-Sainsburys-shoppers-face-convictions-abusing-money-vouchers.html

I'm sure I saw some MSEers on some threads saying they had.... I'm sure the nice people wouldn't have though.

One of our 'neighbours,' who has a field next door, is our local police coordinator, but I don't hear much from her about crime. She has a wolfhound and a thoroughbred, aged 30, that play in a similar way to your animals. :)

Round here, many people forget to lock their doors and most crime is probably of the opportunist variety. :o

On the subject of cat flaps, one of our aquaintances has a chicken that's worked those out....:rotfl:
