Hi lir, have been going back through posts and can't see where you outlined what problem is, but just wanted to offer you my support and best wishes. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Oh you sweet heart (I hope someone has helped you with a person to fix your leak! Horrid homecoming!).
DH has been shipped off to another office with no warning. Its not the end of the world, its just a bit unexpected and expensive. Its amazing really how much dh gets done here at weekends, hundred's of pounds worth of other people's work. :eek:0 -

Had to pull up carpets and underlay and chuck into garden before I could wheel my case in. I think a couple of the Herts NPs also have Megaflow and I wondered if any had a good plumber certified to work on pressurised system in their contacts that they wouldn't mind PMing me the details of.
Thanks!

It generally works the other way around in other studies. People in not very good health (but not poor enough to qualify for ill-health pensions) generally retire earlier than people in fine fettle.
I agree the point about correlation. There is a strong correlation between the damage done by a fire and the number of fire engines attending. Ergo close down the fire brigade? I think not!
Oh yes, I can believe that the people who retire early are, on average, less healthy than those who stay in work until they reach the standard retirement age. But these are people who have chosen to work for 5 extra years beyond the point at which they could have retired with a full pension, which is a different group again.
I love the thing about the bananas. Will use that in my lessons.lostinrates wrote: »Oh you sweet heart (I hope someone has helped you with a person to fix your leak! Horrid homecoming!).

Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Translation: foundinrates has suddenly been shipped off to an office a lot further away, so that instead of only seeing his wife at weekends, he barely sees her at all. They are both just expected to be OK about this. Meanwhile, lostinrates has no idea how to manage the smallholding without his input, and foundinrates has a sadistic bully for his new boss. lir is trying to make out that this is just one of those things and no big deal, but most of the rest of us are appalled at the way they're being treated.
When you put it like that it makes me ask whether FiR would be better off looking for another job?
A friend was offered a major promotion, pay and career wise, but located in a northern town 200 miles away. A great strain on family life. it will only be for a couple of years before he looks for a transfer back here, but its a real sacrifice.
OH had one of those "where do you see yourself in 5 yrs time?" conversations with his boss. There was a suggestion of a place on the main board, but that would involve moving to Germany. "thanks but no thanks" was his reply. Luckily they offered something else involving staying here but a decent amount of travel to America and Australia that he is happy to do.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Yes. Its not ruled out. Another firm have been asking for an interview for a wile and dh has been putting tem off but not burning bridges. He sent tem a CV on Friday and asked if tey have a cross border recruitment process...i.e. could he interview were he is for a UK based job. Also....someone who he worked with in the past (I nice guy who left these employers when some of the politicking was in full flow before..might be keen to employ dh, he certainly expressed interest at the time and since.
Being overseas (separately) in itself is not ruled out for us. Italy after I came back was hard but ot impossible, cheap flight routes (now changed) made commuting simple and inexpensive. We hadn't got rent for an used place in London to budget for (though we did pay rent in italy, and more, it felt not a waste as it was the other ''home''.) and it was with greater degree of choice, not a mandate. FWIW dh had requested a different EU seat, for which he would have commuted, was offered it and then it was retracted because of someone else's (now believed fictional) personal circumstances. That was before we bought, partly with the idea of having done a stint both for its own enjoyment and before too tied down.
We know that this won't be his last posting either, in fact, expect his career to be punctuated with them, but had hoped to have some warning, some control, and frankly, to be a little more established financially before having them...and to be covered by a relocation package as we were before. Before dh was dividing time between offices, that worked well for us, and would be a positive option, particularly if he could mon/fri in London and tue-thurs in one of EU options. Its not unheard of (pre crunch) for some people to do two/three days in Moscow or US and two/three in UK. I think longer term it would be a killer personally.
Bosses are also transient...depanding on the person and the level of tolerance given to them. But yeah, he has had a rough run of the last three supervisers. On the otherhand his first for or five were amazing. Even the ''toughest'' in Italy was, in retrospect a good egg (in fact he and I get on like a house on fire).
But you know what, the other day NDG and I were saying about trainees...when you say ''would you like too...?'' the answer is ''Yes!''...well the same is true as you go up the ladder at least for a while. ATM DH too must say....sure, how high would you like me to jump.....but he can at least do some artistic interpretation and throw in a sumersault or something. The best time to find knew employment would be in a US seat, trying to get employed on a US contract for an EU seat. That would be highly profitable for him at some point in the future. There is the feeling now though, that last in could well be first out somewhere else. Its all still a bit jumpy.0 -

Many thanks silvercar. I've got the names of a couple of local plumbers that have already done work on our estate so know our system however they are elusive (not really surprising as I was trying to call on a Sunday). I'm leaving DH at home today - he was supposed to be going to work - to call the numbers and hopefully he'll get through to one of them. If we don't have any success I'll be calling on you if that's ok.
Thankfully we've stopped the overflowing by clearing out our soakaway and repositioning the pipe in (the soakaway was full and the pipe into it was in water, which meant it backed up into the house). Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? That could mean it will all work again. Clearing a blocked soak away is a manual job, you don't need a certified gas guy for that. If the water has backed into the electrics of the boiler, then it's a question of getting the parts and someone to fit them. Last year a lot of people had frozen pipes and the damage was caused by water damaging the electrics in the boiler after backing up.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
would you believe this? DH's london pad has been burgled. I called the other lodger there and the poor thing is very tearfyl and scared. She's also confused as to why dh's bedrfoom door wasn't kicked in (it wasn't locked : nothing of monetary value is kept there) and why his tv hasn't been taken.....its a huge old thing off free to collect. So much for low stress lodging. (LL is away) I didn't feel she was up to dealing with someone elses stuff so I guess I'll call the crime desk later and see what I should do about dh's stuff.0 -
wow, the police on that difficult patch are so NICE. I'm bowled over by the excellence of the conversation I had with someone in the Burglary Squad and how nice he was. Refreshing to get a positive experience!0
