I'm using the iPad, in the vain hope that I will be convinced that the toy is worth the money.

First impressions are that it is very slick. Amazing quality screen, good graphics etc. Nice apps, Angry Birds works well :ROTFL:

The keypad takes a bit of getting used to. You can delete backwards but not forwards. Copying and pasting is a nightmare. Watching videos is fine, but some YouTube links won't play. Can't work out how to copy a URL, so linking is impossible. Quality of maps is excellent, sound is good.

    Still a waste of money.

I'm a mac user and have been for yonks. The model of tower I use is about ten years old and handles everything I need to do, and it never gives me any trouble. They're so reliable I got one for my dad so he can get online ( and he uses me as his helpdesk but to honest nothing ever goes wrong with it). Right, mac advert over!

What is the ipad for? Is it a glorified laptop - or is it better, or more limited?

Is using it like using a mac?

I can't quite see what niche it fills

And  as well. Long may she continue to feel that way.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    I hope so. :):):)

First couple of weeks will be the trickiest. After that, it's normality.;)

I am off to an African evening in the village tonight, in an outfit from Oxfam, though I think it probably once graced a very white lady of somewhat ample proportions. Well, put it this way, the trousers are size 22 and the top is a 20. It's linen, but it has some very fine embroidery and looks the part (so I'm told!) With only having that to cover my loins (and other bits) + some sandals I think I might be feeling a trifle chilly by 21.30.

Goat is on the menu, so that will be a first. (I have dressed up in womens clothes before, but strictly for charity, of course.:))

Now, despite hating technology I rather fancy an iPad. But only if it can be used as a phone. I like the idea of holding a huge thing up to my head and being the anti-eeny weeny phone brigade.

I have yet another new phone (they keep dying on me) which today I painted a colour of my choice with nailvarnish. I bet it chips badly!!!

Unless there is an App for it, you would use Skype to use it as a phone, even then I doubt you need to hold it to your ear.

We took it on holiday rather than taking a laptop. Useful to download The Times and get local maps.

We ALWAYS have a laptop now, when we go away (employer's rules, and the Blackberry). I thank god times have moved on, my dad used to take a printer and a fax too.
  • My Dad got a mobile some time in the mid to late 80s. It came with a trolley to lug it around.....

Actually one of the big predictors of longevity is having a full and active social life with plenty of close friends. Loneliness is more of a killer than poor diet or lack of exercise.

I'm sure there's an awful lot in that.
