    Not really - I have had lots of phones that can work as a modem but apart from the first one this was always done by wifi - the phone connects to the internet and then makes itself a wireless hotspot that the laptop can log in to just like any other wireless hotspot - 'look no wires'.

    There is a way, but I don't know what it is. Physically there must be a lead that can connect the two, whether you need a clever bit of software or not.....
    I think....

    Decades ago, I saw a graph where male death rates in the 2020s dropped dramatically. The footnote explained that this was because the average life expectancy was around 80 and the people who would of been 80 around that time hadn't been born due to WW2, so the drop was caused by those not having been born, not dying!

    Surely there most be an App?

    If not couldn't you take the SIM card out of the phone and put it in the ipad?

    I went to a pensions seminar last week. Apparently, teachers who retire at 60 have a life expectancy of another 27 years or so, whereas teachers who retire at 65 only have life expectancy of a further 18 months. Ergo the the scheme shouldn't be altered to make us all work to 66? I don't think so. If the scheme pays out at 60, then the ones who choose to work to 65 are a small and highly self-selected group, with a high proportion of workaholics who can't imagine what to do with themselves if they haven't got a job to go to - and it's been known for years that people like that are at high risk of dying very quickly post-retirement.

    Class, repeat after me: A correlation doesn't necessarily imply a causal relationship.

    It generally works the other way around in other studies. People in not very good health (but not poor enough to qualify for ill-health pensions) generally retire earlier than people in fine fettle.

    I agree the point about correlation. There is a strong correlation between the damage done by a fire and the number of fire engines attending. Ergo close down the fire brigade? I think not!
    No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Other genuine correlations lifted from a textbook;
    Children's shoe size and spelling ability,

    and ice cream sales and shark attacks! :D

    Slightly weirder; speed of eyebrow colour loss (greying) and diabetes risk;
    earwax texture and breast cancer risk.

    I don't know what I'm talking about, so don't ask questions ..... the BBC "Click" programme covered the issue of mobile hot spots and using your mobile as your own personal hot spot for your ipad/whatever some time in the past 4-6 weeks.

    They looked at how it all works and they said that a lot of mobile providers have small print that say you can't use your mobile allowance for data because data actually sucks more/faster down the system than they want everybody doing. Many give you a bigger allowance than they expect you to ever use (just to get you signed up) - and if everybody actually started using it (by using their phone as a wifi modem) then their systems would fail/crash.

    If you can find it on iPlayer (if it exists), or on Youtube, they do actually give you supplier names and I think they told you at the end of the clip who you do need to use and what you need to do.

    As I've no gadgets etc only the outline of the information went in one ear and half out the other :)

    isn't diabetes more revalent in some races (cultural/diet influence?) if so would be less weird I guess.

    (as someone who has lost significant eyebrow related to hyothyroidism)

    horrid day :( I'm so worried about dh who is incredibly low: lower than the absense alone should cause..though he's worried about that. He's not sure about his team leader and has been told to prepare for a dressing down next week as its the guy's style to rip you down down down, so that you are too weak to fight back. Rumour mill suggests the better you hold out against it in the beginning the worse the guy wants to ''break you''. People are such prats. Its a shame that its typical for career progression in the industry to lead to people who might be good lawyers, but aren't good leaders trying to be Leaders (with a capital L in lieu if capital punishment).

    Poor him and poor you!

    Nothing worse than trying to by sympathetic from afar.

    Hi peeps! Just got back home from being out of the country for a short while. Megaflow has broken down while away and have a very wet hallway. Had to pull up carpets and underlay and chuck into garden before I could wheel my case in. I think a couple of the Herts NPs also have Megaflow and I wondered if any had a good plumber certified to work on pressurised system in their contacts that they wouldn't mind PMing me the details of.

    Thanks!

    :):o

    We both keep blubbing, which is not very productive.

    I think he probably just has to suck it up next week and look like a broken man trying to do his job till the guy is satisfied he's put dh in his place. DH is civilised, and just finds this sort of posturing alien and thus doesn't ''get'' it and I think that's harder.

    There has been a real change (for the worse!) in culture in the employer since Crunch. I think it was there before hand....but ....more easily satiated. Whereas now the politicking is rife and bullies are running riot. Interestingly I think stats are showing this can't not be evidenced in performance eventually as key people leave/switch off. The question is, will it consume or will the employers (who on the whole DO have an excellent ethos) realise and deal with the issues. I feel bad because I said to dh I think he should stay put with employer (and have done whenever its arisen) ATM but obviously feel to be treated ''badly'' at work is not a good situation.

    Sigh.

    Somretimes ''this too will pass'' sounds really naff.
