    Today:
    (a) it's windy
    (b) Many leaves have fallen
    (c) it feels like autumn.

Same here: if it feels like it, it probably is.

OH stuck on motorway closed due to accident. Annoyingly he was 3rd in the line when they stopped the traffic and then sat for an hour!

He's not going to be in a good mood.

Dentist re-did filling for third time. Hope it lasts longer than my gels (nails) this time! 'cos yup I'm addicted and had them done again.:o

I couldn't phone (legally) if I were stuck in traffic. I just have a regular phone... not even a car charger for sophistication.

Just loaded my main website, 179 people on there right now ... so how come, as it's so popular right now, I've only made £10 so far today???? CLICK you bugg4hs... click.... don't read it ... Jesus.

Seeing as a couple of people have mentioned college/FE funding...

EMA - if you were getting it last year, you may still qualify. The learner support service should have written to you in the summer. You should be continuing with a course started last year (eg year 2 of A levels) to qualify. If you aren't progressing, then you'll be unlikely to get it.

ALG (EMA for over 19's) ditto.

Almost all other funds have been pulled.

Colleges are given discretionary funds (LSF- learner support funds) to help with costs associated with college. There is leeway for colleges to set their own criteria. Usually halps with kits, safety boots, trips, transport, exam and/or tuition fees amongst others. Funds are VERY limited (guess what, they've been cut).

If anyone wants to PM me I'll see how I can advise (but am very busy atm, so may be a day or 2). Get your sprogs to go & enquire at the college. Look at their website for details of financial support, as some colleges offer additional bursaries.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

very old pony (vop) and I are not on speaking terms atm. She has a light rug on now, because the weather hasn't been so great and she has a condition common in old age that makes the hair fluffy and less waterproof, and so I don't want her getting sick because she's wet and cold. But this afternnon its really hot and dry, and she will NOT be caught to have her rug off for an hour or two.

Vop is really funny, she's had a very tough life, and is well aware she's landed on the tips of her toes. Every winter I say ''I don't think she'll make it through this one'' and yet she does. This year I started saying it in July, though she looked amazing in spring (people asked who the now pony was!), but she has stiff joints and struggles to life her legs, so scuffs her feet, and is wearing through her feet quicker than she can grow them. Shoes wouldn't work, because they'd damage the feet more, the new rubber shoes wouldn't work either (pressure on the glue) and the other type of boot for barefoot horses has failed, and that was the best hope. We are thinking about trying to make her little foot guards out of old tyres, but I doubt that will work either...I think she'll just pull them off as she scuffs. All this makes her sound decripit, but she runs around with the best of them, and is the boss of them all, she goes days without tolerating us, and then wants cuddles for days. its just whether we can hold her feet together now. I'm trying to remember all of this and feel more love for her than frustratrion that she won't let me get the rug off for a bit....she hates wearing a rug anyway!

Davesnave, you must be a big exception to the rule. I struggle to comprehend how most teachers (I'm talking FE teachers here) cope with the reality of everyday life. Really. I am starting to wonder whether mostt of them have someone at home to dress them & stuff. Rant rant rant.

In other news, I have 2 accounts maturing less than a week apart soon, & really can't find a good home for them to go to. Nothing is really appealing. ISA allowance used up. I appreciate that there is a board for this, however I thought if I posted it here, people would be a bit more helpful & polite, & no-one would post a series of "BUY GOLD NOWWWWWWW!!!!!" postings...;)

    All ideas considered.

Have you ever considered investing in suburban extensions....or more seriously there is Zopa where the banks are kept out of the picture and you get to lend directly to real borrowers at probably a better return than you can get from the banks but a bit like premium bonds in that you are taking a small level of risk on whether 'your' borrowers all pay up 100%. This is my referral link. If you use it we could split £50.

I had considered this. I suspect my major aversion to risk is likely to mean I wouldn't go for it, but I will have a re-read michaels.

Primary school teachers aren't at all like FE teachers. Every day in the primary classroom is a heavy dose of 'reality!' ;)

I'm by no means unusual; some of my ex-colleagues are far more successful in monetary terms, grossing big bucks compared with their former salaries. Most people get out in their early 50s.

I chose a business with long hours and crappy margins, but there's more to life.....:)

No idea what I'd do at the moment with a windfall, but a purchase into a tracker fund/blue chip companies would probably be the way to go, unless you want to manage funds more actively. Are we at the bottom yet though? Someone else will have a better idea than me, I'm sure.:o

Not far from me there is what is a detached house currently converted in to bedsits, price reduce from 650k to 575k - if you could get it for 500k and then demolish and put 5 flats on the plot (this has been done to several properties on the stretch of road) you could probably sell the flats for about £1m and with build costs of may be 300k there is a nice profit to be made assuming the market doesn't turn too far against you.
    I think....
