I got to chat to my nephew (with aspergers) and he doesn't seem to be getting appropriate advice on some stuff about courses post GCSE. This is the kid that can 'talk to the animals' and has a huge vegetable plot in the back garden that he started from scratch on his own when he was 13.
No-one has mentioned agri/horti courses at all........which is what he wants to do and has a natural skill for. We chatted about that too and he 'got it' as no-one seems to think his flair for growing things is something that could be developed with more knowledge etc.
Seems it has been suggested he do graphics and media . Chatting with him he can't work it out either as he isn't very artistic or computery.
I said I would do a bit of research for him and send him the links via his FB as he said he had no idea those types of courses existed.
For a boy you'd be asked: Do you want to join the army or become a mechanic? For girls it was: nurse, secretary or work in a shop?
Nowhere near you I know ... but there's an agricultural college down this way http://www.cornwall.ac.uk/duchy/index.php?page=_Home&tab=6
I've always wished I had wanted to do horticulture as gardeners/similar are paid shedloads.... you try getting somebody to cut your grass for less than a week's wages for 2-3 hours' work!!0 -

(you're welcome to come here sometime though and I can leave it growing with something over it this week)
It's a bit too late but no way of getting to London this week, too busy
I'll PM later sorry, just rushing off to an all-day meeting with a hangover headache. :rotfl:0 -

that's ok,:) I've left it growing....hopeful;ly no birds will find it, there is a baby coming up near it too. Chances are there might be another couple next week too.0 -
A large part of a tree just plonked itself down in front of me this morning whilst I was returning the garage's crummy loan car. A lorry carrying stone was coming the other way, so there wasn't much scope for creativity. I suppose it was rough justice for my sneaking past a diversion sign, but that was about the roadworks, not flying bits of tree.
Anyway, with no blooming ABS, I skidded into the tree slightly, but the thick bit didn't contact the car, so the bonnet was just a bit messy with leaves and barky stuff, most of which blew or washed off before I reached the garage. I still snook it into a corner though. It isn't a very special car, and it already had plenty of scratches, but I didn't want them to think I'd been abusing it.
So, I paid for the service, MoT and new ABS sensor (£100 less than quoted) and jumped into my own car......only to find that some twerp had left the window slightly open ....and they'd left one of those plastic protectors on the seat....so the wind had blown in enough water to make sitting down the second hair raising experience in half an hour!
Still, I have ABS again...and I'm staying in for the rest of the day, or at this rate I'll have IBS too!0 -

I've not had any more (giant puff balls)....:(
Lots of fungi about now though, some maybe connected with our dodgy tulip tree, which has just shed another major branch. It's not really suitable for this location, but I like it and the leaves are healthy despite the many battle scars.0 -

Good mindreadingThere was me thinking: well, you just posted, so do the same steps again...
Today:
(a) it's windy
(b) Many leaves have fallen
(c) it feels like autumn.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
