I used to be hooked to the TDF when younger, in the days of Hinault, Fignon, Indurain...
Summer holidays just started and Belgian state TV used to cover the mountain stages in their entirity.
Even when the race was boring, you could look at the wonderful countryside they were cycling through...bliss :)
Somehow I lost interest when Armstrong was on his winning streak, but maybe I should watch it again.

The flat stages go through beautiful places and the mountain racing is exciting. The sprints are for loonies of course.

I went up d'Huez twice in 2005. The first time was on a shopping bike!

The second time I did it in about 1hr 35mins from memory. The record is 42min I think set by Pantani. I was quite pleased to be half as good as The Pirate then discovered that his was at the end of a 240km day in the mountains!!!

If you like climbing, Briancon to the top of Col de Galibier is a good one but nothing has come close to climbing Ventoux. That was amazing, seeing Tom Simpson's memorial at the top.
    I think....

And she's obviously passionately devoted to and defensive of him. Beautiful too.

What was it that the irrepressible Mrs Merton said? oh I remember :)

'So Debbie, what first attracted you to multi millionaire Paul Daniels?'

Would someone purely attracted by money be prepared to physically defend them? I dunno. I can imagine someone that powerful, bright etc has some pretty desireabloe qualities. And as well, its certainly no harder to fall in love with a rich man. :)

ha, rain has stopped. NOW I'm going outside. :)

Anyone else watching David Cameron's speech? For the most part I've found him quite personable. I like the fact he says "I made a mistake and its my fault" (my paraphrasing, but ykwim).

I've had a tough 2 weeks, not mentioned it here... but it's now confirmed I am managing an end of life situation. The M nurse will be arriving tomorrow/Friday to sort out care etc, attendance allowance will be sorted (terminal/automatic) and I guess I'm going to be quite busy with the various/changing needs around me ... until. And I don't know when until is... until. But it's probably not this month, but I don't think Xmas plans will be needed.
