Morning all, especially Pastures.
Pastures, what would you like to happen in terms of final day care? If, as I suspect, you would find it hard to look after him at home, then please tell the authorities this. They should now have case notes explaining your difficulties. Also, don't forget, you can go back to the number I gave you if you get stuck and ask for their help again. Particularly if you find yourself dealing with new people who you suspect aren't "in the loop" with regard to your specific needs.
Like Gen, Lydia, Hamish, dave, lir and all of the other nice people I'm thinking of you and if there's anything I can do to help, then please drop me a PM.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? So sorry to hear that PN, remember to look after yourself in the craziness.
I am another who has to watch absolutely everything I am eating. A normal diet of 2000 calories sees me put on weight at an extraordinary rate, so I have to make sure I eat less than that just to stay where I am...to lose weight, I have to be on less than 1000 calories a day.
And of course, now my mobility is more restricted, I have to be even more careful and have found myself to be in a bit of a viscious cycle, can't move around a lot so put weight on, cut down more on the food but stay where I am weight wise which of course then, makes the mobility more restricted....I am down to one meal a day now and no eating between meals apart from some fruit.
My current problem with weight started after the mobility issues, it wasn't the weight which caused the mobility problem in the first place, more the mobility issue caused a fair bit of the weight gain but now, it is compounding it.
It is all very depressing as I was so active, I never walked up the stairs, it was always done at a run, I never dawdled along the road walking but would do my Aunt Sally (Worzel Gummidge) impression...very fast and energetic. Now if I try fast walking, I get two steps before everything seizes up and I can't walk any further for the rest of the day...as for running up the stairs..nope, not going to happen for even one step up. I try warning eldest that if he doesn't slow down and listen to the specialists, then he is looking at his future when he looks at me but will he listen? Will he heck!
Mind you, I was exactly the same at his age.....We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Sorry to hear that PN, if there is anything we can do to help, please shout.

Sorry to hear lir and Sue are struggling with the illness/weight combination. Hope things improve for both of you.The norm seems to be £14k, you must have haggled :money:
The thing that puts me off is that i know just when "everyone" has got them, the government will change the rules (tariffs) just like they did with diesel and everything else where people try and beat the system.
It does sound like a good idea with ever rising fuel prices and time will tell just how good.
Hope it works out and they say it's the equivalent of putting your money in an account paying 10% interest. :T
The tariffs are supposed to be index linked for 25 years at the level you go in at. So far the government are intending to make the electricity companies honour the tariff commitments to people who've already got into the system, but they're talking about dropping the tariffs for new people by 30% next April instead of the planned 8%.
I'm gambling that this country is going to continue its long history of honouring contracts already made, and just not letting anybody else in if the contracts turn out to be unaffordable. If you're tempted to go ahead and get some, I would seriously recommend getting in before the end of this financial year.
If any of the nice people are thinking of getting PV panels, please PM me. I can give you the low-down on the 5 companies who quoted for me (3 of whom aren't worth getting quotes from at all IMO, but 2 of whom are good). Also, if you get a quote from the company I'm going with, you can mention my name, and if you happen to end up getting panels with them, I'll get a referral fee out of it.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

No, I just left it with a bit of the corner missing, phoned the dentist who arranged for me to come in today (!) to fix it. Started to tingle a bit over the last couple of days, so I hope it settles down. Dentist is adament that the best action is to replace the chipped bit rather than drill out the whole filling and start again.

Also discovered there are no long-term hospices in the county; it seems there's a short-term one, for assessment, but if you need an actual last days place, the only choice is a nursing home.... old currently in the short-term one, but not looking good ... and once assessed will then need to either slide off in a stupour, be shipped home to slip off, or shipped to a home to slip off.
Everything's gone: mental state, physical state... and the C's spread fast so the old struggles to breath at all, or speak.... can't move really either. Visiting daily but it's a 40 mile round trip of course
oh dear, doesn't sound good.
I know that supporting the healthier one is as difficult as supporting the ill one.
A friend of a friend is a doctor at a hospice. Apparently half the patients in a hospice leave alive. I always thought a hospice was the door before the one marked "exit" but patients go there for balancing meds and to relieve carers etc and not always as the last stop.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I can't believe your kids didn't notice a hole either. Perhaps they were worried that you'd be cross, and felt pressure from the gas people and so just ''separated themselves'' from the hole? Probably though they just...didn't think it would be a big deal?
Didn't think to see more like.
Anyway the house was in a relatively tidy state when we got back - until I saw their bedrooms.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Glad the hols were good - I think there may be some issue with teeth and altitude (you mention a mountain), only one of my teeth that have ever broken was at 3500m and I think was either the altitude or possibly the -30 degree temperatures, or both combined.
The mountain was only 1490m altitude
I have a dilemma with my dentist.
He is very obliging re appointments, very caring, believes in not messing with something unnecessarily and has really helped me sort out numerous gum problems over the years. I sort of feel he knows my teeth so I should stick with him BUT either he is not very technically capable or his non- interventionist approach often means a filling needs re-doing.
So when a bit of a white filling chips off he repairs it. Sometimes it holds but sometimes it doesn't and needs re-doing or worse needs the whole lot taking out and starting again.
Now I don't know whether its the approach that is wrong or whether its a good approach and unfortunately these things happen but they are worth trying or whether he is not that good at actually doing fillings.
OH says its all very well finding you an appointment quickly to repair something, but it shouldn't have gone wrong in the first place.
I don't know whether to stick with him or not.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. silvercar, why not ask him? say you like him and all of the above, but that you feel frustrated and let down it lasted such a short time.
It could simply be difficult. I have a filling that has had to be messed about with/redone about five times, four different dentists. Tricky place, and then when it was finally right it wasn't smooth, so stuff kept getting trapped and dental tape would fray when caught on it. If it had been just one dentist I would have thought it very incompetant, in fact I did, so I changed, and realised either they all were or my tooth was difficult. I decided it must be the tooth at fault.
I don't mind dentists, bizarrely I think its quite relaxing, but just so expensive.0 -
I did say I was disappointed. He said that these things sometimes happen. He said its like glue, sometimes it sticks and sometimes it doesn't
He said that the other option was to take out the old filing and start again, but there were risks with that as it means drilling it out and its near the nerve, so he'd rather retry filling the missing bit. With a white filling, that should work.
So that still leaves me not knowing if the theory is good but the application not, or if the theory is dubious to start with.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
