Now you're giving her ideas, DT. Although it does look rather like one of those loo roll holders from the birthday book. (Does anyone as old as me remember that cringingly awful - um, unless you like them, of course - loo roll cover that was a slender doll, which stood down the middle of the roll, with a knitted skirt that covered the paper? My gran made loads of them - I was quite taken with them when I was 5, but my mum held on to them for waaay too long to be fashionable. I remember we had one in pink, one in yellow, and - my favourite - a rather fetching blue and white mix. Ah, those really weren't the days.)
PS I have to admit to being rather traumatised. I googled "doll toilet roll cover knitting pattern". I shouldn't have, I know - but it seemed a more pleasing occupation than trying to do a whole year's accounts in an afternoon - and I came across this. The toilet roll ladies were bad enough, but then I scrolled down and saw the poodle. Some repressed memories are beginning to surface ...
Hmmmm my parents had the doll, a ghastly yellow one, worse still they had a knitted poodle wine botle cover. Explains a lot.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes. Have spent the day cuddling snotty children (mine) who both decided to be ill at the same time. There should be a law against that sort of thing.
Have cancelled all planned activites in the hopesof a laid back weekend of recuperation. Am now tempted to blow the horse riding money on sock wool but keep reminding myself that I already have two dozen or so (a very very generous or so) balls of wool stashed in a cupboard. Really should use some of that up first... really should but..........Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Did the slightly rubbish hand-crafted present arrive?
It did and its ace! So much so that I've already retrieved it from DD1s desk where she'd put it for safe keeping. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had a vast array of pressies most of which the DDs are eyeing up. Would be slightly less obvious if they'd waited 24 hours before snaffling things.
OH got a bit caried away and confused the heck out of everyone at school as I arrived a tad late (later than my usual late) with a car festooned in balloons with the odd glittery happy birthday sign or three in the windows. Seems there was a quick digging through staff files to make sure they hadn't missed the opportunity to organise an outing for my 40th.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
DD2 is miraculously better in that she sat on my head at 6am to ask if she could go horse riding today. Meh. Wish I recovered from stuff as fast. Shes on her third bowl of cereals of the day, clearly making up for yesterdays lack of appetite. Will wait to see how DD1 is when she emerges, presumably around lunchtime.
In the meantime I need to do lots and lots of laundry but will have to resort to the tumble drier because its rained non-stop all week.
Should be at a Country Market this morning followed by a meeting but have e-mailed my apologies. Will keep the DDs home in the hopes of them both recovering fully for school on Monday.
Month end statements arrived yesterday. Debt is going down slooooooowly....... very very slowly... still it is going down although its going to take another year to clear at this rate. At least now we seem to have a life in and amongst the debt busting which isn't really debt busting at the mo. although it does seem to be ticking over on its own. Have lost the enthusiasm to survey and mystery shop and do all the other stuff which ups my income whilst eating into my time with stuff I really don't want to be doing.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Have got the same feeling hereDo you think it has to do with getting up and going to work in the dark?? Its always at this time of year when things slow down a little and get sluggish/half asleep. I find I get over it by the end of October and dont resent too much going down the garden path in the morning by the light of the moon and the owls still hooting - its just the seasonal change in my case - I hope!

That sounds quite plausible Igamogam. Attempted to do something about it by listing a couple of bits occupying shelf space in some specialised free classified ads. Spent the rest of the day cuddling snotty children and knitting although I seemed to make gazillions of basic mistakes because I wasn't concentrating enough. Gave in and watched Disneys Beauty and the Beast instead.
DD1 is hoping I'll give in and take her to the civilised world in order to be traumatised by a scrum in Claires, purveyor of tat to teens, no matter how quiet it is theres never space to swing a cat and some display or other leaps out to attack you. Can't think of a worse place to be.... apart from the car boot sale because its still raining.
Realised i haven't washed DD2s school uniform or DD1s pe kit so need to track them down and fumigate them first thing. After that I need to bake enough cakes to placate a staff room full of ravenous teachers as is the tradition on birthdays. At least the monkeys will enjoy that.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Didn't get round to baking in the end. Did whip up a batch of marrow chutney with the marrows that have been lurking in the fridge since early September. Helped the DDs with homework, did random stuff, cooked dinner and suddenly it was bedtime. Not a clue what happened to the rest of the day.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Morning Moo
What a wet and dark morning it is. I know what you mean when you say you don't know what happened the rest of the day. I think you get more done than you realise. You always have something planned and achieved every day. Hope you enjoyed your birthday. Did you get your needles?"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream"C. S. Lewis

That sounds like a pretty good birthday! I hope you can retrieve some of your pressies from the DDs.I came across this. The toilet roll ladies were bad enough, but then I scrolled down and saw the poodle. Some repressed memories are beginning to surface ...
We had something... all I can remember was the rather repellent shade of PINK . Was it a doll? I don't think so. Expect the whatever-it-was is still at Mum's somewhere. Having looked at those Ebay samples I am tempted to make a Father Christmas one just for the sake of winding the family up over the festive season.Miggy
