Blimey, tis February already. How did that happen? January seems to have whizzed by in a veritable whirlwind of snow, slush, ice and snot. But mostly snot. Febrary heralds the return of the vomiting virus. Last nights school disco had more pukers than the last five years worth of discos combined. Of course that could have had a lot to do with the PTA deciding to sell fizzy drinks and hot dogs.....

In other exciting news the head honcho still hasn't got round to telling payroll to pay me less, assuming they work at their ususal super speedy rate I'll have been paid my entire annual salary by June and will end up with an empty wage packet for the remainder of the year. Still I'd far rather they were paying me too much than not paying me at all. Six weeks of full time work to go :) Will remind him again today.

Far far more excitingly we've been invited to a wedding in the South of France.... squeeeeee...... admitedly in the frosty snowy part of the year rather than the sunny bit which means its also the part of the year when its only possible to fly there if you go via several dozen ssall airports in the opposite direction to the one you intend to travel, which pretty much guarantees all luggage will be lost at some point. The other fun filled alternative is to drive. Oh joy. Almost as much joy as filling in the online passport forms. When they finally arrived we patiently explained to DD1 that she had to sign inside the lines of the box blah blah blah thus ensuring she didn't. New forms are on their way. At least I have several months to sort this out. I suspect they'll reject the passport photos which make the kids look like grey skinned zombies. Whilst the OH used a different photo booth and looks like he's been tango'd.

Still continuing with my palns to have a clean and tidy house. Still failing miserably. No amount of ruthless chucking out seems to make any major impact. Have another six bin bags of outgrown clothes and shoes to cash in but despite that the DDs have huge mounds of clothing on their floors. Still I'm going to give it another month and hope that makes a dent in it, although doing three hours housework a day is slowly making me loose the will to live. I keep reminding myself that I will be grateful once I because a woman of almost leisure and don't spend the first couple of weeks doing nowt but clean. V. tempted to hire a skip to speed things up a bit. Then again half term starts in 12 hours time :)

Half way through the holidays already. How did that happen? Have survived the sleepovers, friends to stay and six days of OH at home quitting smoking without loosing the will to live. Done a pathetic amount of paid work, even less housework but I have done an awful lot of telly watching and chocolate munching. Slowly working my way through the food stores, the supermarket bills have been much lower and shelf space is being reclaimed in the cupboards. Still a million years away from having a tidy kitchen but it's now a distinct possibility rahter than a ridiculous notion.

Next on the stash busting agenda is the candle stockpile. Not for us the odd one or two for emergencies but something approaching three hundred. Admitedly half of that is tea lights but the vast majority aren't. It's quite scary how much stuff we still have despite all attempts at miminalism.

    Pay day tomorrow :)

You never know when you will need candles , Very handy things when you live out in the wilds and have loads of power cuts. You cant have too many ! :p:p
Its just a bad day, Not a bad life ..
  • I've no idea of the total candle stash as I have several mini-stashes. I could argue that the logic is so they're close at hand in a power cut, no matter where I am in the house, but it's mainly just never getting round to putting them in one place!

Have I found a branch of Candle-stashers Anonymous? My name is Greyfox and I, too, have a candle stash! Some of mine date back to the 3-day week (1974!), then there is the box of 24 outdoor candles bought for our housewarming in 1988 (it rained!), several boxes of dinner candles in different colours & sizes (we never eat by candlelight), a load of memorial lights & other candles inherited from MiL, a bag of tea lights, about half a dozen pillar candles + various scented candles which people have given me. My OH hates candles & is convinced that the house will burn down if we light one!! I know I ought to chuck the lot but.....

I too have a candle stash, brought it down to my house from the cupboard I kept it in at my dads as when I lived there he hated me lighting them. So now am getting organised in my new flat I'm lighting one most evenings as I find the psychological effect of seeing the flame means I'm putting the heating on for shorter periods of time. :)
