"Should be fine" and "determined to be different" means DD1 is alternating between knitting right handed and knitting left handed. Usually midway through a row. Makes for interesting scarves.

Meanwhile OH is trying his best to make ammends which in turn is making me behave like a stroppy two year old. Arrived home at lunchtime today to an empty house. One piled with washing up. Did the washing up and the ironing and finished just as they arrived home from Ikea loaded with stuff ranging from a replacement dustbin bigger than the cupboard it was destined for, to a roasting tray, several cleaning tools and a chicken roaster all of which duplicated things we already have, the difference being they're all new and shiny. Nestled in the middle was a v. nice pestle and mortar which OH had bought as a gift becaue I said I fancied one... about 3 years ago.... cue another gargantuin wobbly. Quite why is a bit of a mystery to me too. Its almost like he can make things right by throwing money at things.

Topped the day off by discovering the horrendous smell emanating from the hound from hell means shes in season and housebound for the next 3 weeks during normal dog walking hours.

Spent two hours enduring Blade the film for the second time in a month. Turns out knitting serves as an excellent distraction to this and so the rear of the owl is finished and the front about a third done.

ps. The sudden knitting bug does not mean I am taking any orders whatsoever for hand knitted stripey socks... no siree bob.... not even if someone has a fantabulous and yet idiot proof pattern to send my way *hint hint* .... not even then .... although I may well be tempted to have a go just because I've got the odd bit of wool to use up.

I knitted socks once............. way back in late 1970's when stripey toe socks where first invented. Red and white stripes , knitted on circular needles and I wore them! My kids thought I as quite mad when I told them but of course that was back in the dark ages when there was only 3 channels on TV :) Its unlikely I would ever knit socks again but I am going to have a go at the Owl teapot cosy because we do use a teapot.

I can send you a pattern but it is not exactly idiot proof and you will need either circular needles or three pins and it has toes just to add to the complication but you are welcome and I am sure your "clients" will appreciate them :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Left handed knitting is something I will have to face too as my little girl is left handed so I will be interested to see how you get on :)

Throwing money at a situation is the easy thing to do I would have thrown a wobbler too :(

I'm left-handed (all the best people are) and my mum ignored that and taught me how to knit right-handed. Didn't do me a lot of harm :D

    Me too!

Don't think it matters to learn to knit lefthanded - once you are taught how it becomes 'sort of' 'natural' to you to do it right handed. - that's why I iron rt handed. :rotfl:

Only just caught up & I'm sorry to hear of your woes but can only endorse all the others have said.

How did it go telling the girls?

can I also suggest that if he is going to go, it gets done before the start of term? DD1 is going to have all the fun of new school to deal with so maybe it would be kinder if OH is moved out and things settling down again before then?

Haven't told the girls anything because nothings changed, for them at least, I have noticed several major changes ranging from OHs lack of drinking to his sudden need to spend at least £50 a day. Am most grateful that hes not at work at the mo. because I suspect he'd spend far more and at least not forking out £100 a week in fuel is going a fair way to absorbing some of the impact. He is much nicer to be around and considerably happier too. I suspect that may well change upon the arrival of his credit card bill though.

He and the DDs cooked dinner last night. For once it wasn't sodding pasta bake. Am most grateful. My punishment was a rather odd western featuring aliens which means I'm now a dozen rows from finishing the front of the owl too. Need to figure out where I can get big sew on googly eyes without buying £50 or paying £1 each.

Raided the school library yesterday and have Percy Jackson and the lightening Thief to look forward to over the weekend. Was only supposed to be getting Harry Potter #3 and a Lily Quench for DD2 but ended up liberating a dozen more titles too. Its a good job theres no one else using it until September.

Have a gazillion and one things to do and very little time left to do it in. Finish work on Thursday evening for a fortnight. The hound from hell being a randy dog magnet changes plans quite considerably though.
