Yet more financial faux pas and many other disasterous decisions

The DDs decided that since yesterday was Mothers Day I was allowed to be left to my own devices for the entire day and was not to be bothered with trivial requests for things that could wait. They lasted until 9:45am when DD1 uneartherd last weeks manky PE kit. The suggestion that she handwash it herself was met with a look of total disdain. Pointed out I was having the day off so shes chosen to wear it as is.
OH arrived home with flowers, DD2 made a plant pot at school and DD1 unearthed the card she forgot to write last year and went on to make two dozen fairy cakes using half a catering tub of cherries in the process. V.v. scrummy although scoffing five just before going to bed was not very wise.
GOt lots and lots of sewing up done. THe heinous coat now has half a sleeve attached and another ready to go. Looks far better with the sleeves in place but its still way too short although a great length on DD1. Am v. tempted to give in and hand it over to her just to get shut of it. Wishing I'd made it in a plain colour as it would have gone so much faster and crucially I'd be far more likely to wear it.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Was supposed to spend yesterday evening enduring death by bingo at the annual school fundraiser but after a parent made the mistake of implying I'd only be returning to work to clear up I decided to boycot the entire event. V. naughty but meant an evening of quality veging time with the demonic daughters.
The OHs mission to quit smoking is progressing. Hes now smoking his way through all the fags and baccy stashed in the house and his car to remove temptation.... really.... he was definately starting on Monday, which became Tuesday and is now today or possibly tomorrow or the day after......
Meanwhile I've royally put my foot in it. Apparently we need a bike shed to free up space in the OHs workshop which became a slightly bigger shed for a couple of other things and before you know it enquiries have been made about running another mains supply the length of the garden to service a shed the size of a room in an average house. On the one hand it would get the landie stuff out of the house but on the other I know that won't happen as hes already perusing brochures featuring monsterously big lathes and other unfathomable bits of male gadgetry in which I have less than zero interest. Imagine then the look on my face when the OH explained that a lathe weighing a third of a ton would allow him to redress the vacuum cleaner motor. Obviously being a girl I was wondering why a vacuum cleaner would be wearing clothes in the first place but it turns out this is one of many technical terms that I will instantly forget... and as for the discussion on welding in a giant wooden box..... shall I start writing the submission for The Darwin Awards now? or simply increase the life insurance to cover acts of great stupidity.
Meanwhile I ventured forth into the realms of the local scrap metal dealers yard and disposed of a bootful of rusty tat which has been cluttering up the garden for a rather surprising fiver which was substantially more than I was expecting.
Hoping to spend today hiding in the garden to avoid any further in depth and tediously dull conversations about the stuff in the machine catalogue for which I can see no use whatsoever.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
I sympathise with the workshop thing - my OH built his own which is fab but could house a small migrant family quite luxuriously - all mod cons are included. Often thought OH could move in himself....................... It hasnt sorted the problem of tools stored by the backdoor/frontdoor/conservatory door 'I-will-take-them-when -I-next-go-to shed' syndrome but as the solar panels are now fixed to its roof it is of course a money earner so totally justifying the 4 months he 'took off' between jobs to build it!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Only last week's kit? One of my sons actually managed to wear his kit for a whole term without bringing it home once! He says he was not the only boy to do this. I imagine the PE teacher must have been without any sense of smell...

Death by bingo....:rotfl:I'd never thought of it that way, but now I come to think of it...:rotfl:

I have every sympathy with your OH! Everytime I go on diet I eat everything available in the larder that might have a calorie in it. Same principle...

Men are a different species, nothing wrong with them, they're just different that's all :rotfl:Just up the insurance for the giant wooden box and ask to go on the cover of the Darwin Awards year book...
You have made me laugh so much, thank you!

Can feel the life force being slowly sucked out of me. Spent yesterday in a machine shop having the minutest details of various lathes and milling machines (which I mistook for pillar drills much to the disgust of the OH who thought I'd been paying attention). OH has decided which make and model he fancies and has the dimensions for reinforcing the floor to support it. The only model in the showroom with a price tag on it was labelled at £300.... imagine the look of abject horror on my face upon discovering the one he really really wants is way over the 2K mark without any of the bits needed to use it. Apparently hes hapy to compromise. I should bloody well think so.
Came home via Macro where I treated myself to a half price four drawer really useful storage containery thingie which is now home to the overflowing knittery stuff and an electric mini cupcake baker and icing set for DD1 who had an outstanding report from parents evening. Couldn't have been more chuffed with her progress.
The first lot of riding gear has arrived. DD2s is a tad on the large size whilst DD1s jodphurs are a tad snug. Fortunately DD2 will grow into them.
Five more working days to the next school holilays... not that I've organised any childcare yet or anything else either. I've been too busy digging up a lawn in order to lay a base for the shed which isn't yet on order. It will make a nice patio for the summerSaving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
to the patio Moo.
Well done to you daughter doing so well at school. Count to 110 the next time he mentions buying anything."You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream"C. S. Lewis

You know somethings going on when you walk in the door to find all the washing up done, the laundry on the line and the OH ironing. Its also worth a fair bet that whatever it is won't be something you're overly impressed about which is why I spent yesterday on a arage forecourt looking at a £250 car. Now just the price tag should give you a clue of the sort of state this thing was in. Chuck in the lack orf raod tax and MOT and a sales rep whos entire patter consisted of "I can get that fdor it as scrap mate" begging the question why the heck hadn't he done just that? After much head scratching and jump starting and whacking of the starter motor with a very big hammer OH reached the obvious conclusion and we left without it.
Since we had to drive home past the areas most expensive posh yarn shop he couldn't exactly refuse to stop there. THe lovely ladies plonked him in a comfy chair with a cuppa and an array of magazines to read. The fact they were all knitting related is neither here nor there. I wandered around not daring to ask the price of anything without a price tag finally splurging on this (which was lurking in the bottom of the 99p basket) and a half price needle tip storage rack. Came home a v. happy lady.
Spent three hours casting off the coat. Three sodding hours. Thats how long it takes to cast off 800 stitches when you're tired. Was determined to do it before going to bed though. Have two plackets to go before I'm done. Suspect each one will involve at least another 600 stitches and a gazillion more hours of my life. Fortunately at this point in time I like it again.
Today is a whirlwind of the same old same old.... with the added bonus of a free E-bay listing day thrown in. Tis an incentive to clear out more tat and replenish my very depleted paypal account. Still boring as hell though.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
