Today is metaphorical pull a rabbit out of a hat day which sees me whipping up the Tudor Costume I'd forgotten all about by 7:30am. No pressure then.

DD1s longest black skirt with nappy pin to make it vaguely the right size at the waist (although she had to lift the front up as she walked because otherwise she tripped up over it), a white school shirt and, la piece de resistance, a pale coloured pillowcase on her head as a head dress. It looked surprisingly authentic. Obviously she was the only girl not dressed as a queen and the only child in the entire class not in a shop bought costume which is truly barking.

Mind you the same child has previously been dispatched to school as a ladybird constructed from sticky tape, a bin bag, lots of socks and safty pins so her school friends are used to our less than conventional creations.

Quite whether I'll get away with this when DD1 has her go to school dressed as an olympic competitor day next month is another matter entirely. The temptation to send her in swimming costume and handlebar mustache is overwhelming, sadly she doesn't want to go as a 1930s weightlifter.

Whoooo hoooo its the weekend which means I've woken up with a headful of snot. Have an invite to an indoor carrigage driving competition which is an act of sheer lunacy and fabulous to watch. Imagine a pony careering round obstacles inside a building marginally bigger than a basketball court, then attach two wheeled cart and two adults to that pony and you get some idea of the mayhem involved and then if thats not mad enough throw in a second pony just for the heck of it and suddenly you have two ponies, two adults and a cart doing handbrake turns at speed in a very small space. Its supposed to be about grace and precision but no one ever tells the ponies that.

Spent yesterday on housework avoidance by poottling round Mr Ts. V. v. glad I did. Spent £55 which covered 8kg of veg, 3kg of pasta, a dozen pork chops, 2kg of extra mature cheese and 9 large whole chickens in addition to all the usual stuff. No doubt they'll be sick of chicken by this time next week.

Have to venture into the village shop on the way to riding lessons in the hopes that they have posh peoples papers as well as The Sun since rumour has it the hound is in one of the broadsheets today.

Hoping the wheather perks up so I can spend the weekend gardening in anticipation of being able to plant spuds and onions in the not too distant future. Need to wage war on nettles first.

Mini Amazon gift voucher splurge to declare....£7 on cables for the Knit Pro circulars in order to finish the heinous coat which I am officially bored to death with. Mine aren't long enough. Whilst I was paying postage for one it made sense to buy a v. short one and a medium sized one too so that I now have every cable length they make. Running out of excuses but still have 5" to go to finish the main part of it.

:rotfl::rotfl:That's exactly what I would have suggested to any of my children. Funny how they all perfected a look of disdain from a very early age. Speedos and a rubber hat will out too, don't go there. Looks like shorts and trainers or tracksuits will be the order of the day.

  • I could just imagine your daughters face when you mentioned the swimming costume, what about sending her in her horse riding gear?

That was her suggestion, but it lacks the wind-up factor and we have another whole week of suggesting outlandish outfits for her to wear before admitting she can go in her riding gear. DD2 is in on the act and was caught surfing in search of 118 style mustaches so DD1 could go as a runner. Other suggestions have included 1950s bathing suits with frill and 3D flower covered swimming hat and theres the Eddie the Eagle look too. The possibilities are endless and the look on her face at each random suggestion is priceless.

Yesterday was nothing short of awesome. Watched everything from a Shire Horse to a team of four shetlands career around the same obstacle course at rapid speed. DD2 was content just to ride on the backstep of the carriage in the cool down arena whilst DD1 was itching to have a go round the obstacle course. Spent all day there so got very little else done. Fab day out though.

OH is playing about with an old lap top in the hopes of getting it up and running so that DD1 can do her homework on it. Hes getting very frustrated by the speed it runs out which is quite funny to watch. Both DDs are very excited about the possiblity of a laptop in their rooms but have yet to realise that it comes with a removable Wi-Fi card so their access to the internet will be severely restricted when they're supposed to be using it for homework.

Came back from riding lessons with a long kit list for camp. Need to source a heck of a lot of stuff for it most of which we already have but in the wrong colour and its not like I can get away with one lot for them to share because they're too different in size. Meh. I forseee much E-bay surfing in the not too distant future.

Got lucky last night and aquired a show jacket and cream jodphurs for DD2 for £3.71 plus postage. Pretty sure the jacket will be too small for DD1 but will hold off on finding one for her until we've tried it on. Need to source black chaps for DD2 as DD1s are two sizes too big for her and I need heaps of Pony Club logo-d tat. Its almost as cheap to buy it new from the Pony Club as they don't charge for P&P. After that its acase of sourcing another four pairs of Jodphurs each as they need 6 pairs, not that they'll need six pairs again until the following years camp so I'll be sticking to E-bays 99p ones in the hopes they survive 24 hours. The rest of it is 99p stuff from the local farm shop and general clothing and camping gear.

Not a horse type myself although I do like talking to them in the field opposite our place but your day out sounded fab and very exciting. Have a friend who did that hurtling round with horses and carriages thing for a while but she battles with her weight and decide to give it up as she was miserable on a constant diet so no just rides 'normally' - and thought it was only super models who went through this sort of thing! Another friend has olympic tickets to see the jumping - they are not horsey people at all but it was the only tickets they were offered:rotfl:

Lap tops homework and internet - as most of our DD2 homework, revision, lesson notes, tests etc are uploaded on school website we had to give in otherwise she was on the PC at a time when either me or OH needed to use it - we get round it by having her laptop shut down automatically at 10pm which is plenty late enough :D. TBH she is often finished well before then
