Tag on a dog and details to put on it?

As far as I recall, the legal requirement is that the tag should have the name and address of the owner on it.
However, I have yet to find a police officer who is prepared to do the paperwork that goes with a prosecution for having the wrong info on a tag.
My dog has got:
* my home number - the answerphone is always on and I can access it remotely.
* my mobile number - if I've lost her I'm going to be out looking for her, so far more useful a number to have.
* my work number - there is always someone there to answer the phone during the day, and there is even an out of hours emergency number answered 24/7.
* my vets number - if my dog were involved in an accident then whoever finds her has instantly got a vets number to hand.
Regarding lost dogs that I have found, it has always been the mobile number that has enabled me to reunite the dog with it's owner as the owner is always out looking for the dog.0 -
My dog has
one one side
-our surnames (not married)
-full address
Other side
-Dogs name (no recall to his name at all!)
-both our mobile numbers
he also has a second tag saying he's chipped, and the phone number of the rescue we adopted him from. Having 2 tags has the added bonus of lots of jangling when he walks, warning cats and wildlife that he is coming (he's an ex-poachers dog),giving himless things to try to chase
I got my double sided tag from ebay. There are lots of sellers there selling the same types of tags as Pets at Home do, but they will engrave both sides, not just 1. I also bought a second, duplicate tag incase he ever loses his collar (unlikely as he's never off lead, but you never know)Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0 -
Agree with the OP i would not have my name and address on the dog tag. This poses security risks, wrong doers know your out and know where to go.
Just had muts name on one side.
Other side phone number.
He is chipped any way, a trip to any vets will reveal the identity of the registered keeper.0 -
Unfortunatly, the law now states that you do have to have your address on a tag. Many places don't have chip readers, and many people forget to update chip details.
Regardless of what 'wrongdoers' might do with the information, its the law. Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0 -
TBH I'm at a bit of a loss what wrongdoer's could do with your address? How would they know if I was in or out just because they found the dog? The dog could have escaped from the yard, been lost by a dog walker, friend etc0

I have my dogs name on his, all someone would have to do is wave a biscuit at him and he would be off:rotfl:
I stupidly put just my home phone number on so when I did lose him the person who found him was ringing me and I was yut looking:o0 -
Oh crikey how long has this been law? I brought two dogs into the country recently, had no idea they are supposed to wear tags (they're chipped and have passports of course).
Everyone is talking about 'tags on a collar' - what about dogs that have a harness instead?
Is it possible to get a tag that could be riveted onto the webbing (there isn't anywhere to fit a dangly tag on the harnesses)? ..If so please can anyone recommend a source for this type of tag?
ps. Incidentally, I took both dogs to a fair a couple of weeks ago where they were admired and stroked by a couple of PCSOs - the lack of tags was not mentioned.. ??0 -

I have my tags on a spring clip which goes on different collars and leads because they wear different things in different situations.
re address concerns and ''knowing you are out'' in the cases I was refering to, while it doesn't eliminate petnapping risk it means the criminals are forced to phone. Receiving a small part of your pet through the post to ensure you pay up to get the rest of the pet back whole and less harmed is, I'm sure, a pretty vile experience!0 -

you can get tags that slot flush into webbing or leather-a bit like this http://www.gotags.com/pet_tags_by_id/101 but with the side loop bits cut so you don't have to thread them through (been trying to find the site for them for you, but come up empty, will keep looking). How do you attach a lead to their harness? Is there really no D-ring or adjuster you can attach a tag to??
Here you go, these are the ones I was thinking ofhttp://www.indigocollartags.com/Engraved_Collar_Tags.shtml#AtTheTop
