Mine have 2 tags, one with their addresses and phone numbers and one that simply says 'Scan Me I'm Microchipped'. Like the above poster though the theory about not having names on their is lost on mine as one of them would answer to anything ;)

I just wanted to elaborate - If you have a heinz 57, it is probably of no value to put that they are neutered on their tag, as chances are there wont be many people wanting to steal one to breed from.

However, if you have a pedigree, I would always add it onto the tag, as some people out there will steal a good looking dog so that they can breed. Yup I know KC rules should stop this happening, but only reputable breeders register with KC!
Letting [STRIKE]any potential or actual scum[/STRIKE] people know that your pedigree dog is neuterd is a good thing ;)

Having said all that, I still have it on my heinz 57's tag.... and I can't quite work out why :o:rotfl:
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

We always suggest people put their surname, first line of address, phone number (preferably a mobile), vets phone number and if they are microchipped. Personally I would never put my pets name on a tag
  • I also have 2 discs on my dogs collar.

1 has my house number, postcode and mobile number on the other has Scan me Im chipped on one side and please call my Mum asap Im diabetic on the other.

Added the diabetic part after she escaped a couple of years ago and the kind lady that took her in was giving her loads of treats while she waitied for me to arrive to collect her.

    I have -
    1. Surname
    House number, postcode
    Mobile number
    Home phone number
    2. "Please scan me. I'm microchipped"

Having 2 tags jingling together makes people aware she is actually wearing tags as she's a long-haired breed and her collar is not visible!
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

    Taken from Kennel club website:

The Control of Dogs Order 1992 mandates that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. Your telephone number is optional (but advisable).

I would never put the name of the dog on there.

Where has everyone found that will engrave a long address?

As well as that practicality this makes me rather cross, having experienced dognapping (not our dog, but a case very familiar and close to home and similar dog type) we were advised at that time not to put a name on or a full address. (well after 1992 and by the police involved, with the discussion of the lasw considered.)

Our tags do however have our hamlet name (there are just four buildings that carry this address line in the area) and our phone number. Both dogs are also chipped.

However, its possible that a kidnapping pet person would have a chip reader, so ...maybe its time to get new, longer tags. When we moved we had the new tags made and I did ask about full address and I was told it wasn't possible to fit them onto the tag (largest size in store). I should have got someone to get me some at Crufts.

Not a problem mutt having her name on her tag, as her recall is appalling at the best of times.

I have her house number and postcode on, plus 2 phone numbers, mine and my mothers. I never thought about anyone trying to pinch her as it would only happen if she escaped - never off the lead otherwise - and anyone who tries to approach her is likely to get nipped for their trouble.
Although thinking about it, anyone waving food at her would have a new best friend for life, so she probably would be pretty easy to steal.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
