Ish,its not a "If you don't pass you get points" test, they decide if you pass dependent on level of involvement.
My ammend came from their pointing out "10% of all deaths on the road occur between midnight and 3 am"
I replied with something along the lines of, "So I am actually safest to be on the road between those hours, if 10% of deaths occur within that 3 hour period which is 12.5% of the day, the other 87.5% has the remaining 90% of deaths. Which equates roughly 13% of deaths occuring within every other 3 hour period of the day assuming an even split."
Que the instructors looking worried and unsure and me walking out of the course feeling rather smug. Dont try scare a stats geek with stats if they aint bullet proofThis was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -

I guess what they needed was a stat that said despite traffic being say 80% lower than in peak commute, number of deaths is still similar therefore you're more likely to die.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I was going to say, "You can tell you're a statistician!"
It's a high percentage given the amount of poeple on the road at that time though - they should maybe word it like "80% of people driving between 12 and 3am WILL DIE compared to only 3% in rush hour"*
*example figures, probably not accurate

Something in the region of 70 - 80% of those deaths are single vehicle accidents largely cuased by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I get what they are trying to do here, but this was a pure scare stat which was fabricated and that annoys me. A lot of what they say was well thought out and researched, I'm a lot more cautious of 30 zones after seeing the difference driving at 35 can make to an accident. It was marred by obvious scare tactics to try and drive home the point. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -
Morning all,
Spooky conversation this morning, was just reading this thread and got a text from OH saying he has had a speeding ticket in the post this morning, 59 in a 50 but he can do the course for £80. He knew he had been caught too, was coming home from his first day in his new job after a 13 hour day so he wasn't very happy.
Sorry to hear about your ticket TeteI guess the £75 would save you money in the long run on insurance...?
Birdie your weekend sounds fun! I'm pretty lame at Just Dance but am a whizz at Singstar (only 80s and 90s though, anything more recent and I'm totally out of my depth!)
Envious of the holiday talk too! Never heard of Puzzling Place but am in based on the name alone!Barclaycard [STRIKE]£7,296.35[/STRIKE] £6134.99 - MBNA [STRIKE]£4,182.88[/STRIKE] £3267.08 - O/draft [STRIKE]£569.31[/STRIKE] £413.59 - Capital One [STRIKE]£1477.55[/STRIKE] £1451.44Total debt [STRIKE]£12048.54[/STRIKE] £11267.10 6% paid0 -
£80?! It's going up all the time!
Anyone ever heard of coconut making you ill? I bought a 'bargain' 50p one yesterday and ate half of it and I feel rotten today - I'm going to go home and go to bedAll I can find on the internet is how good it is for the digestion! Trust me to be the opposite

100% of Cinnys did not understand any of that talk.
And I was waitressing at a garden party. Minus the back rubbing, I really like doing them. I taught a little girl how to eat raspberries off her fingers Amelie style too, it was like I'd told her unicorns were real and bleed both rainbows and glitter.
I think people should just be given a warning in place of their first speeding tickets. Or in areas where they drop the speed limit there should be a 3 month passable speed of 5 mph over. Something like that. Oooh, or! They could just not have speed cameras.
ETA: Hope you feel better soon Tete!0 -
Never heard of that Tete, hope you feel better soon.
Ahh Cinny makes sense now, sounds quite fun!0 -

Well in money news, NIM and I have made it to my payday without incurring any bank charges this month
This is the first time in 4 or 5 months so very pleased with that. I've also done our budget for the month and we have a more realistic £200 for spends, and about £50 (don't know exactly how much we'll each get this month) left over to go straight on debt clearing. As this would usually go on bank fees I'm counting it towards the challenge once we actually pay it off. With having the card on 0% I'm thinking a realistic timescale to clear it is around the 19 months we get - so my goal now is to beat this and bring it down to under a year. We'd need to make payments of £450 a month over the minimums (and the snowball £240 once that loan is paid off) to do it in a year... I think this is possible.
