Dig a third veggie patch in the garden (if next door don't get their planning permission, if they do I'll have to give up growing stuff altogether)

I know I shouldn't ask this - but why would you have to give up your veg patch if next door gets planning permission

    Oh and my resolutions

    1. Use all the Veg from the veg box within the week so we don't throw it out!

    2. Learn to use the computer properly so I can work from home

    3. Start using a load of the stitching "stash" I have rather than buying even more :D

    4. Keep the apartment tidy so that my cleaner can do her job fully :o

I just lost this whole reply once

But really, I just love these things because the more people you tell, the less likely you are to back down!

    1) Give up smoking for ever. I've already started this one and I'm not finding it nearly as tricky as I thought I would!

    2) Make HM wine that is actually drinkable.

    3) Ebay my ebay box, which has grown to a pile the same height as me

    4) Cut weekly grocery spend to £40 per week.

    5) Fill my teramundi money box with £2 coins. I reckon there's currently about £50 in it and I hope for at least ten times that when I smash it.

    6) Eat seasonable. Also forage for free food. Chestnuts don't count - too unimaginative.

    7) Teach little sis to keep house therefore breaking family slob cycle at this generation.

    8) Get a job I actually like.

    9) Try a more extreme tightwad technique every week. If i find them 'too extreme' or 'too american' I can then drop them with a clear conscience.

    10) There was definitely a number 10 the first time...

Well done on the packing in smoking - I did that about 15 years back and felt ever so much better (and richer!) for having done it.

Hmm we also need to cut the spending we do - but we tend to buy organic meat or from the local farm shop and it is more expensive (but ohh so tasty!)

We have a couple of recipe books that are split seasonally - maybe I should start planning to have more meals from those!

#8 is pretty much the same as me wanting to work from home, before my ankle packed in I was doing payroll and I hated every single blasted minute of it!

Perhaps the new building will throw Moggins' garden into shade ?

Me too... I have made the decision to simply have meat as a treat rather than a staple. Seasonality will help here, I think.

I already feel richer not smoking. I need to get one of those demijohns or something so I can literally watch my money build up in front of me.

    Here Goes

    1. Reduce Grocery bill further

    2. Keep on top of housework (declutter is the key here - made a good start last year, now need to finish the job)

    3. Spend more time with kids (often feel I'm just in the same place while we get on with different things 2 should help with this)

    4. Make more effort at work and stop coasting (used to love my job and I'm sure it's because I used to try more - now I'm part time I find it hard to "get into it")

    5. Paint hall and buy hall carpet (once DD potty trained)

    6. Sort out front garden

    7. Pay off CCs

    8. Lose weight (well, it'd be odd for me if this one didn't feature on the list. Lost 10 lbs before christmas - but I think I've put them all back on again)

    9. Start running againg

    10. Save (once 7 sorted out)

    11. Get more veg into kids and DH.

    Wish me luck

Stick to my meal plan weekly (Stick to grocery budget £180 pcm)
    Never buy any ready meals
    Start batch cooking
    Move house
    Pay £15K off my debts
    oh and get married:D

That bit's easy ;)https://www.freecycle.org. Find your local group, sign up, and you should be emailed a welcome email which explains things :)

Or if you've got any questions feel free to PM me, i run a freecycle group myself.
  • What a good idea for a thread. This year, I want to try to OS it even more, so:
    1) grow more vegetables this year (and recognise that the things that were successful in the past will probably be so again, don't be talked into buying new varieties for the sake of it!)
    2) sort out my diet and DHs (currently too much cheese, not enough veg)
    3) sort out my 'housekeeping routine' - a day for everything. Right now I try to do everything at once and achieve nothing, even though I know that if I only wash and iron on certain days of the week I stay on top of it better.
    4) cut commitments outside the family - this year I will pull my horns in and spend more time with the people I value.

Wonder how long it will last?
