Pity that, I have no idea how much I weigh in Kilograms. :) Only pounds, and I've gotten stone down pat as well. Hence, no hydration calculator for me.
Oh well, Im drinking a bottle now to be on the safe side.

Since downloading the reminder my computer keeps freezing. When I turn it off (after rebooting!) it runs okay. Anyone else noticed this?

As it [the article] points out foods contain water already - bread is 35% water.

Thanks for the heads up Reaper. Next time I’m exercising I'll be sure to eat plenty of bread or maybe even a fish to quench my thirst.

Perhaps WaterAid should have called their site "Eat More Cod" with a calculator for how much cod one has to eat in order to quench their thirst?

Their Drink More Water page has a message highlighting the difficulty many people in the developing world face getting water. Maybe that is what they want to get across to people too.

The calculator said I needed to drink 13 glasses a day - but then I am rather large and walk around the block a lot.

    WARNING
    THIS IDEA IS DANGEROUS NONSENSE

This board is full of life saving tips. Thanks to James_N I may live longer.

He warns us all that drinking more water is "dangerous nonsense". I for one was not aware of the dangers of drinking water and am going to review my behaviour with immediate effect.

I am going to drink coke, coffee and eat a healthy of portion bacon (contains FLUID!) before I exercise. I have often wondered how the average member of the USA public attains that healthy, slender look and James_N has just informed me!

"Eat pork and cheese before you run kids - they contain FLUIDS!"

"It is American to drink water" is the message I get from some other posters. Funny that... I'm just baffled at how the human race has survived for so long without the Americans around to tell us that we need to have a healthy intake of water.

It looks like the hydration info on the site was sourced from a senior policy executive at the British Medical Association. Why would they want to poison the population with water? Who knows who to trust these days?

Am I the only one that likes water? well 'like' is a strong word......its more a case of not minding it, plus its just easy to drink - not like tea or coffee, waiting for it to cool down, and making sure its strong enough. Water is simple it just works if you are thirsty

    THANKYOU,

I LOVE THIS, WHAT A GREAT IDEA!
  • I think it is a good idea too!

I am at a loss to see how drinking more water is dangerous. It is good that WaterAid are encouraging people to be healthy.

I think if I drank too much water my body would let me know.

I've never heard of anyone calling up their boss to say "I can't come in to work today, I've been virtually poisoned by drinking too much water".

I have never heard of bread companies marketing their bread as thirst quenchers either - HOVIS! - CONTAINS 35% WATER!

I would not worry about the scare moungers who say drinking water is dangerous.

this water drinking habit has to start early with some training.

our drinking habit has a lot to do with our parent. when we were children, parent did not stop us from drinking whatever we want, but they never stock any soft drink/ flavour drink in the house. cola/ orange juice may appeared in the fridge once a month maximum. tea/ coffee was also a rare item. so water was the main fluid in the house, and mom would hold a mug full of water to our faces until we drink it up. we never had argument about things like this and we never crave for cola or any sweet drink. water becomes a natural selection because we get used to it since we were babies.

we never drink directly from the tap because it tastes 'raw' and u never know how clean inside the pipes are. so we always boiled the water and let it cool down in jugs. in hot summer, we would bottled the water and chilled it in fridge. we used the water filter for a long while until some german friends told us water filter can remove healthy mineral from water. so we stopped using the filter, and went back to cool boiled water.

i would love to replace my usual cool boiled water with evian natural mineral water, heard that some movie stars only drink it and have fabulous skin. but it will cost more than £400 a year. :(

Sadly, there will always be someone who can't or won't read things properly: the "warning about water" consumption is about over-consumption of water, not correct quantities. The only point I was making it that nearly all foods contain water, and that the intake should take this into account. As for cola it IS still a fluid, whatever you may think of it (it doesn't pass my lips in any variety).
Tap-water is legally fit to drink anywhere in the UK. Luckily ours is (normally) delicious, but we live in the west. My "native" London water is foul-tasting once you've tasted other UK varieties, but remains legal and completely safe. Quite possibly I would actually buy bottled water were I to be forced to live in the smoke again. Or I would flavour it with one of the several varieties of natural cordials to be found in any good shop.
It remains true that over-emphasis on water-consumption is an undesirable feature of USA -dominated "health" sites and that consumption recommendations continue to be mis-interpreted - as this discussion has shown.
It's also unfortunatly true that in many parts of the world, simply truning a tap on is not a part of life - and yet clean, available water is one of the best - and cheapest - ways to assist in reducing mortality in many less-developed areas.
Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.
