How 'Genuine' are the Sales

As many people are preparing to 'invade' the high streets in search of the 'elusive' bargain, I find myself questioning the 'validity' of many of the so-called 'January Sales'.
For example - yesterday an advert for a 'Flooring Company' was being shown, where 'Huge' reductions were being claimed, yet at the bottom of the advert there was a 'small print' announcement stating that the higher prices had been applied in '14 out of 140 stores'.
Many other stores seem to be 'ending one sale' only to be 'starting another'.
I am sure that there are indeed true bargains to be had, but it is worth reading the small print.

I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

in my experiance the only bargans I have ever found in sales is that of end of line stock or end of season. The so called sales like at DFS and electrical stores are just a waste of time.0

We've found this too - we have been looking at a childs bed in MFI, which was £198 in October (this was the standard price, it wasn't in a sale at all). We looked at the start of December, and the price had gone up to £315, so we had given up on buying it, as thought it was cheeky to increase the price so much. Today, it is in the sale for the hugely knocked down price of.........£198!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

Neither have i, the things i want to buy never seem to go down in price anyway.0 -
I find the only really good ones are Next, Boden, and M&S and all of those can be bought online. Tesco are quite good but you need to be quick into the store and I never am! Places like John Lewis (I love JL by the way) I tend to be wary of as they bring out a lot of 'Special Clearance' lines that have not previously been on sale in the store and are just carp stuff at 'special' prices and not genuine sale discounts.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0

A friend that worked in John Lewis said that they bring in stock especially for the 'sales' it is just another word for -we could not sell it all year long so let's reduce it put a big red sticker above it and people will think they are getting a bargain!! xx0

I LOVE clothes and shoes sales and have had some excellent bargains from places like Next- their suits are excellent sale buys and last for ages. I'm staying away from there this year though as I cannot be trusted once I see the magic word "sale"!Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24

I have been in shopping today and came away with very little. I do most of my shopping at car boot sales and charity shops or tesco/asda so it all seems expensive to me.0

I saw the 14 out of 140 ad and commented on it too!
I also popped in to Homebase on Xmas Eve they had a cabinet (I bought 2 in the last 2 weeks) paying it had 25% off, but it had been market up as it was £3 more then I originally paid which ment I would of saved about £2.50 in the sale.. laffable!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092
