How 'Genuine' are the Sales

Been to Instore, not much good either, went in for something specific (which wasn't in the sale) still wanting full price for a lot of the Chirstmas decorations which suprised me. Sainsburys are good when they are selling the clothes off but that was done before Xmas. Hoping the House of Fraser sales is good, might brave it tomorrow. Had a few barains in the past from Argos etc but not many.
So many places add to the price before discounting, the one that makes me laugh is the likes of Officers Club and similar stores, even that Sports Soccer, everything says sale or blue cross sale etc but always been the same price. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
We got our new suite and carpet in a genuine sale in the summer, not from one of the chains but from an independant shop in town, we have also been lucky in the past with 2 chldrens bedrooms for the price of one at mfi. It seems harder to get a genuine bargain now though! Next have unrecognisable stuff in at sale time, their clearance stores are better in my opinion.0

I hate the sales, there are a few genuine bargains but it's generally the stuff that the store couldn't sell through the season, where I work we've brought out last summers sale stuff too!
Plus the mess! ARGH. Hate itNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
"January" Sales are not the same as it used to be. Loads of places had sales on in December...Currys, Argos etc. Places like DFS seem to have a sale 12 months of the year
And I agree that sales seem to only be genuine when it is the end of season clothes like Next for example. 0 -
I think it depends really on what you're looking for and what's on offer. PC World have advertised a laptop for £199 in the sales, so I nipped there today with my housemate. Obviously by 2pm when we arrived all the laptops had gone (as people were waiting outside at 7am)... however the sales assistant said 'Dont worry, we'll have some more delivered tomorrow, a total of seven'!!!
That's awful, people will queue again for hours, and the laptops will be gone in no time. It's a ploy to get everyone in the store.
However I'm really really looking forward to the House of Fraser sale. I love it, tis where I get all my clothes. I always ask for vouchers and save through the year plus my birthday is November, so vouchers for then and Xmas gives me a nice little kitty to take with me tomorrow. (Yes, I'm sad and will be waiting outside at 7.30am). I know some of the stuff is 'out of season', but if I can get a £150 pair of Diesel jeans for £50, or a D&G shirt for £30 then I don't mind at all! Last year the HOF sales were rubbish, but two years ago I got around £1,200 of clothes for £350.
Next is really good for work clothes in the sale I find. Trousers for £10, shirts for £8 - bargainous!!£2 Coin Savings = £0.23

I *know* for a fact some of the huge high street retailers, whom I cant name because I work with them, plan "sales" months ahead and gouge prices during those few months to "provide" sales prices. Literally providing 2% profit to the manufacturers during those months, on a sale or return basis, and they can do this because they own the high street in effect
It's all carefully planned. Basically there are no "bargain sales"This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
This reminds me off something that happened to my father in law in february. He went to MFI to get a bedroom suite for his in-laws, and after he'd looked round, found the one they'd asked for, and gone to see a sales advisor to sort out delivery etc, he was told not to buy it this week as the prices had been put up because the sale started next week. It was one of the "14 stores that offered it at a higher price in the previous twelve months". Basically, it's all a big con!

In the words of one 9 year old yesterday morning " Why are the toys more expencive today than they were last week" ... kind of killed the xmas sale shopping mood .. said 9 year old is an expert in toy prices. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

I think the next sale is quite genuine and I do always get a few shirts for work & a pair of new shoes at good prices. Argos sale is usually OK on some items (decent matress reduced from 230 to 100 last year) and if you can get any of the giftsets, xmas cards etc reduced its a bonus for next year, but generally don't bother to be honest - most of it you can get around the same price any other time of the year if you shop around!0
