    I don't know what actually happens, but if, for example, the repairs department is stacked up with work and they have targets to meet, then one way of meeting the targets is to reject a batch of repairs without testing them properly on the grounds of "water damage".

    I just have my suspicions after reading and evaluating a number of threads on here.

    Engineers get paid commission on how many handsets they successfully fix, why would they just throw their money away?

    I started this thread a while back as I was interested in why many phones were diagnosed with water damage. Some interesting responses including some from contributors to this thread. The most interesting to me was that phones used in countries with high humidity kept working. (not a representative sample)

    In my view, if someone went to court and challenged the water damage diagnosis, with the appropriate evidence to show, on the balance of probability, 'normal' and careful use, then the court may well side with the consumer that the phone wasn't durable and fit for purpose. Of course, most won't go down this route for a relatively small return as it will take time.

    I find it surprising that manufacturers don't seem to make phones with adequate protection from ingress of moisture or seal circuit boards to minimise damage from condensation.

    Some phones will be damaged by water due to misuse however, I remain unconvinced that this is the case with many phones as most of us look after our mobile phone and use it carefully as is reasonably foreseeable.

    Worth challenging the retailler I think OP.

    Even if this were the case (I have doubts that it is) they would have good reasons for cherry-picking the easy job and dismissing anything more complicated using 'water damage' or 'dropped' as an excuse. As I said, the entire system is flawed.

    I worked for Carphone for four years, it was common knowledge that our engineers were commission based. If first line engineers couldn't fix it first time, it would go to second line who would replace it if it couldn't be repaired. You clearly have no knowledge of the system, it isn't as flawed as you may think.

    You have knowledge, but all your arguments posted above despite aimed to prove that the system is good, give the opposite result.

    I don't see how these two lines either prove or disprove anything said above in this thread.
    If the first line engineer has far too many phones going to the second line he risks being flagged/sacked. It's far less risky and more easy for both the engineer and the company to use excuses for blaming customers instead of replacing the phones.

    UPDATED UPDATE

    Picked up phone and now it wont even turn on!! Had perfect internet connection when I took it in and now it is useless. Photo of moisture damage was such a close up of a circuit board that in no way could you tell for cetain what the phone was.
    Phones are sent away for repair inside zip lock plastic bags, surely this wouldnt help any moisture damage?
    There is nothing thay will do as they say due to the moisture damage the internet connection would have broken anyway.
    They wouldnt give it to me in writing that my phone now would not turn on so if I took it c=back again I have no proof I havent broke it further (IYKWIM), not that there is any point in me taking it back.

    Bascially they have been no help and according to them it is an electrical device and is not intended to be used in the rain/showers etc, and in their words the same way you dont watch a tv in the rain as it would break it!!

    Really cross but looks like nothing I can do about it, 5 week old phone fit for the bin.

    I guess you could take it to an independent repairer for a second opinion.

    Probably not worth if for a £100 phone though. Personally I would steer clear of Samsungs.
