RBS Key Account upgraded to Select Silver Account without my consent

This has just happened to me - I like my key account, you can see money going in and out instantly and cannot go overdrawn even by accident. Therefore making them no money but costing to run. RBS have been asking me to change my account, go in branch etc etc to upgrade. I said I wouldn't but so they have sent a form for me to sign through the post. After reading the OP's tale I shall be keeping an eye out for them changing my account without my signature as I do NOT WANT a different account. Plus I don't care about where I can withdraw cash as I pay for everything on my card and very rarely withdraw cash (apart from the bank of OH!).
So, to the Op this has been useful information. thanks0 -

...Recently, I opened a Key account at RBS, just a few days before they stopped that kind of account and replaced it by "Basic Accounts".
Today friday, I went online and I noticed that the name of the account had changed from "key Account" to "Select Silver Account"...
Butting in because the thread has been restarted.
An upgrade offer from "Key" to "Select" *may* have been justifiable (in the circumstances that the Key account's replacement appears to have lost "Link ATM" functionality) but from "Key" to "Select Silver" is "sharp practice" that you should vigorously protest via the Complaints procedure.
And although there is sometimes a fine dividing line between a "service communication" and a "marketing communication", don't forget you are entitled to set a range of marketing opt-outs on your customer profile. In the case of Halifax (I don't know about RBS) it is even possible to opt-out of being "ambushed" at the counter.
And you will "learn" little from "marketing" which can't be gleaned from an occasional perusal of the bank's website.0 -
I'm not sure about opting out of being ambushed at RBS counters, although in my experience the only hard sells at the counter occur at Halifax and the Post Office. I can't speak for Santander, I won't even set foot in the place. RBS has suffered from a great deal of misinformation recently over the change in account facilities, I've been told that there are no more direct debits from my account. I suspect this is poor training rather than an intention to deceive.0

I opened a select account and was given a 4751 17 card so presume this is offline. I know friends who have an RBS a/c and have another type of visa debit which isn't the dark blue colour but a turquoise colour so presume they are the online cards, is that right? Very confusing!0

I'm pretty sure the online only cards for RBS start 4751 16, not sure if this has changed though with the new account rangeDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0
