yeah you were right chubaka, they refused to give me a grown man card at the branch, but at least I'm on a Select Account now.
On an unrelated matter, I just discovered I could use my Barclays card reader to make a transfer online with my RBS card!!!! Good news since i've been waiting for the RBS one for 2 weeks now!0 -

The same goes for the other banks that have them.
PS. Is your address right? Also, just incase you "lose" it, you can order another for free.Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion

You can log in to online banking, and select 'Order a Card-Reader' under the 'Change Settings' option on the left-side menu.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

99% of customers don't know the difference between the cards and the issue never crops up.0 -
hi, yes my address is correct, I've received my other stuff. I'll call them again to order one. Hope they won't ask me to go to a branch!
thnx0 -
Well the 2 people I spoke to at the branch had absolutely no clue what I was talking about when I asked if I could have an Offline card. I then said a "4751 17 or 18" card, still no clue.99% of customers don't know the difference between the cards and the issue never crops up.
At one point one of the girl told me the card I had (4751 16) was the only card they had!
Anyway, it's after a while they said this was the only card I could get cause the account had just been opened (but it's more because of my credit).
I find it weird though that they agree to open a "Select" account but leave it as a "key" account! Usually, when you have one of those basic account and ask for an upgrade to a full current account, banks either open the full account or decline the full account application...0 -
The thing is now the CGCs have gone banks are not under any obligations to even offer offline debit cards.
Ive always had the sneaky feeling once the CGCs scheme went the bank would only offer one type of card.
I dont know why so many people deem it so important to having an offline debit card as there at more risk
to the customer going overdrawn etc.
Im not sure if Chambta can shed any light on this thought?Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I can speak only for myself but I need to be able to buy train tickets on the train, pay for gas anywhere I want to stop at and i'm sure there are other things I often buy from merchants who don't have the card machine always hooked up to the network.
Plus, if I'm not mistaken, you have access to "contactless payment" with the offline cards, don't you?0 -

If truth be told the only reason I know about the different cards is via this forum. It's not something I can recall ever been mentioned by 'the bank' in, in any training material or indeed by any customer.0 -

I know Barclays only offer contactless payments on there offline debit cards. Im sure that will also apply to RBS when they get there backside into gear and start issuing them to customers.
Does your smile card work on the train and petrol pumps. Maybe you should use that account as your main account until RBS offer you an offline debit card.
You know since joining MSE ive never put so much thought to the functionality of a debit cards :rotfl:Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0
