mother refuses dna test?

My brother had a one night stand with a girl last year, she became pregnant and told him that the child was his, and he put his name on the birth certificate. The girl asked told him she wanted to have a relationship with him and raise the child together but he refused as he is now in a new relationship.
Now he is beginning to question if the child is his, as the dates and another few things just don’t add up.
He has asked for a DNA test but she has refused. Can he aquire one by law? He doesn’t want to be named as the childs father if he isn’t, he now realises that he was quite daft to put his name on the certificate in the first place. He is willing to support the child if it is his, but he needs to know one way or the other...

Unsure because of the Birth Certificate thing, but when this happened to someone I knew, they didn't have to pay as the mother wouldn't agree to a DNA test. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

She hasn’t once asked for any maintenance payments, which is another reason why we are thinking there is a possibility it isn’t his as if she did, then we know he could legally ask for a DNA test.
It is more to do with just knowing for sure if it IS his baby, rather than paying child support. As I said, he has no problems with supporting the child if he is the father.0 -
I think the CSA can request one - has he approached them about it or are payments done privately?
whoops - crossed post! just seen your post about payments!0 -
I'm not 100% sure (so other people don't shoot me down in flames if I'm wrong) but I thought the onus was on the mother to prove who the father was, and if she won't agree to a DNA test, I don't think there's much you can do.The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

As his name is on the birth certficiate.. why does he not 'take the baby out for an hour' straight to the doctors and have it done himself?LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

gillyx, i think you could be right, but i wasn't sure if the fact that his name was on birth cert would come into it or not, as surely these records should contrain the right information? also, what legalities ential, as he DID put his name on the cert?
Thanks0 -
Or he could do what pigpen suggests
seems a sensible solution to me.

I would have thought it counted in her favour that she hasn't asked for money. It shows at least that she has no financial motivation to lie.£1600 overdraft

when he asked for a dna she went crazy and told him never to contact her or the baby again (tho she still maintains he is the father).
from what i have read, if he can prove he is not the babys father, he can have his name taken off the certificate.0
