I suggest you head over to the AV Forums a read up about the TV's you are after before buying. Plasmas are far better then LCD's especially for TV/Film Viewing. Maybe the PX60 was not set up correctly or was connected to a rubbish feed?
Apart from snaking issues the Panasonic's are one of the best Plasma makes after Fujitsu and Pioneer respectively.0 -
Yes, the LCD sets tend to have a higher resolution, but that is far from the full story. They can only display a "sharper picture" when being fed with a full high definition signal. Feed them with what you will be using most if not all of the time - standard definition, compressed - and then you'll see one of their dirty secrets. Redknapp is right: read the full story on AV Forums.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

I purchased the PX60 42" last Friday. Noticed the "purple snakes" Saturday night during Casualty. Yesterday i took the TV back and exchanged for a Pioneer, will be picking it up tonight.:beer:0

I was sorely tempted to order one of these tv's last week after reading this thread, but was a little concerned about all the talk of purple snakes, so decided to bide my time.
So glad I did!!
Dragged Hubby over to show him the tv (in the flesh) so to speak..as I have been trying to persuade him that we needed one.
Anyway after seeing it, compared to the Philips 42" LCD, the picture is nowhere near as sharp.
In fact, the Panasonic had the lowest resolution of all the televisions on display!!
I was really gutted, as I do like the look of this tv on its stand. The Philips stand is nowhere near as nice.
However, picture quality is much more important.
After speaking to the sales assistant, who advised not to go for plasma..as he told us that LCD was alwasy a sharper picture, I felt quite deflated. Even made him play about with the brightness/contrast/colour of the Panasonic to try and make it as clear as the Philips!! No way!!
Now just need to find out any discount codes..or anywhere that may be selling cheaper. Anyone??
Philips 42PF5421 42" High Definition LCD TV
I'm sorry but I would take as much notice of a part time sales person in Pc world giving me advice on t.v's as I would giving me information on their computers. Please do your own homework and look at reviews like these
http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-bin/displayreview.php?reviewid=6884
and you would find the Phillips does not carry a digital tuner which I would say is nearly now essential, and the advice about lcd's being sharper is contrary to everything I've ever read. I know you saw with your own eyes the difference in tv's but as I keep telling my wife you should never judge them in a shop where the true quality can not be reproduced fairly.0 -

Betterbargains... maybe worth checking out my post #37 on this thread. Also AV Forums as suggested. If you manage to get through all the info there I doubt very much you will buy an LCD never mind a Philips!0

FloFlo wrote:Well I've ordered a 37" Panasonic TH37PX60 with cabinet stand, from Currys not the best price £949 but OH didn't want the 42" and the 37" is disappearing from stock elsewhere. Its being delivered Monday 15th and I will not be looking for purple snakes.
Ouch £899 at Dixons,+ discount codes on top **see voucher board**
I would email for a pricematch or cancel and reorder for a £80 saving0 -
Deanos, I thought you of all people would know not to post codes on the Grabbit board.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
