I have seen a clip of these snakes, and it is very noticable, its for that reason that i havent bough one of these sets yet.

No I have no connection with Panasonic; I am simply aware of some of the compromises that go into the production of equipment like this. Showing the snakes on a test DVD is a good way of demonstrating them but does not prove that they are visible on normal picture material, which is what the set was designed to display.

A DVD is normal picture material! What's more as we all know (at least all of us with faulty sets) the snakes appear on all inputs as well as the built in freeview. The problem is they're not there all the time so the best way to demo them to the service guy is through dvd as we all know what scenes will show the problem.

Just to make something clear to you, the footage on the DVE set up disc that I will use to demo the problem is not a test patern. It's a clip of a guy standing up talking to a couple sitting on a sofa. It maybe very boring but the idea of it is to make sure everything looks natural (i.e. black level, skin tones etc.) and it's really no different from any other dvd you may watch.

I'm not entirely sure why you're defending Panasonic on this. Maybe you have snakes and are trying to convince yourself it's acceptable or perhaps you've not seen how bad the problem is yet but either way it's far from acceptable even at the low price the set now sells at.

I would suggest that anyone who has one of these sets due to be delivered should look for this problem rather than try and ignore it as from what I've read it gets worse with time so if you have a faulty set get it replaced or get a refund right from the start.

One final thing, I don't know if this has been mentioned on here but from what I've seen and heard, the 50" Panny plasmas don't suffer from the same problem so if you've bought one of them then don't panic!

No it is not. It is a source of video signals, which may appear as normal picture material, test patterns or whatever. You must have strange tastes in entertainment if you like to watch test patterns. :D

I don't deny that and I never did. That is not the point.

Hurrah! In that case I have no qualms at all about you claiming this as a fault - problem solved.

I'm not defending Panasonic at all - I was trying to help you out by suggesting what might be the response if you show the problem on a test pattern. As it's not a test pattern, there is no problem.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

    Hi Williamh1...

Can you just walk in and ask for it at that price?

Do I have to aks to price match with someone?

I live in Glasgow and going into town tomorrow - I have so far managed to talk myself out of this because it is silver (it does look a little dated next to other models and I have a wife!) but at this price with a 5 year warranty is hard to beat.

I was quoted the price by JL on the phone. You can order via the phone and I'm afraid I have found the SAs in the Audio & TV department a little off-hand on a face to face basis -admittedly I did go in on 2nd. Jan and they all seemed thoroughly pi**ed off at having to deal with all these raving loons chasing bargains. Anyhoo - my recommendation is to call and enquire rather than turn up and hope.
