I switched from standard tarrif to websaver 10 in December. I am kind of confused now because it is fixed until Feb 2012, unless I switch and pay the exit fees.
Fixed prices? was that meant to mean i pay the same energy price up until Feb 2012 or is that a capped tarrif.0 -

It means that you always pay a fixed % less then the standard rate for that period, but the standard rate is variable and can change.0 -

Use wood fire to cook 25% or 50% of your food. You will save energy and money. Wood is easily available in rich countries. You can burn waste furnitures.
What we use to spend on natural gas in one month is the same as we spent all winter. And we bought our wood already split and deliverd and stacked. We spend $120 to $150 a cord. The last winter before this one we spent $400 in one month on natural gas. When it gets below zero the heater never turned of allday. O and BTW wood stoves put outs out much more heat.
Ash is the best fertilizer for trees and plants so you will help Mother Earth when you use wood fire to cook your food. How many people know that Ash is the best fertilizer and it is free (no money).
Place a iron grill over the gas stove and start the fire and place the cooking vessels/utensils or frying pan over the iron grill.
The iron grill will become red hot and release heat and the food will be cooked faster. So you will save gas and money.
The thicker the iron grill the more heat will be release by the red hot iron. I mean small iron grill, enough to cover the flame/fire only. It can be known as "stand". You can remove it anytime you want.
Try it. When the food gets cooked faster then post it here so that everybody can read it.
I have done some cooking over open wood fires, it's not unusual. Some people, even restaurants, have brick ovens made to burn wood. Hickory, cherry, huckleberry, plum and dogwood are excellent for imparting delicious flavors to food.
But do not burn toxic wood inside your house. Keep it outside. Nature will take care of everything.
Vermont just passed a law allowing cities to use wood for heat.
MONTPELIER, Vt. – Vermont's capital city is going ahead with a plan to expand state government's wood-fired heating system into city schools and government buildings.
Montpelier voters approved the plan Tuesday, saying yes to a $2.75 million bond issue to help finance a $20 million biomass project that would hook up City Hall, the police and fire stations and two schools to the wood chip-burning system that's been heating the Statehouse and other state buildings for more than 20 years.
The vote was 963 in favor, 609 against.
So-called biomass heating plants — some public, some private — already exist in St. Paul, Minn., Seattle, and Concord, N.H., while a handful of other municipalities are exploring the idea, including at least five in Vermont.
The technology has gained favor with the rise of oil prices and concerns about climate change. Supporters say burning wood, wood chips or other plant matter would reduce costs, air pollution and reliance on foreign oil. END
I have heated my house with wood pellets the last 4 years..-40 below..below freezing for 6 months..there is even a forum..

You can cook food over burning plastic but you need to start a good wood fire and then throw plastic in the fire when the temperature is high because the Fire will melt the plastic (petrol by-product) and the melted plastic will burn at high temperature for 15 to 20 minutes and the food will be cooked easily. Raging fire releases very very less smoke from the plastic. Plastic smoke is dangerous and should not be inhaled/breathed.
If you throw plastic at low temperature, the fire will stop and release toxic fumes/smoke.
But Do not cook meat or burgers directly over plastic fire because plastic smoke is poisonous and dangerous.
Use frying pan or utensils to cook food over plastic fire.0 -

Websaver 10 is a variable tariff. The only thing 'fixed to 2/12' is the minimum term, at which point you can leave without an ETC.No free lunch, and no free laptop

PS Grasslands:
It might work in rural Vermont, but I doubt that it will be very practical in a high rise flat in Hackney...
Are you aware that this is a UK-based forum? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Looks like BG have got i made with the 18% price increase, if your a standard tariff customer then they're making more money from you, if your on a fixed tariff for 1year then they're making money off you as you pay 19% ontop of the standard tariff and if your on a 24month fixed price then your paying 24% extra already........win win win for them at the moment.0

As noticed by others, the prices on the British Gas website are not correct! I have contacted them and they admit that the WebSaver 11 prices shown both before and after the price increase are incorrect. They have sent me the correct prices for my area and I am shocked to discover that the increase for me will be considerably more than the 19% quoted by British Gas. My tier 2 units have increased by 23% and my night units (which I use the most of) by a staggering 37%.
This actually puts the night rate on the WebSaver 11 tariff higher than the night rate on their standard tariff, in conflict with the terms and conditions for this tariff.0 -
