the op brought his son a Contract phone
he gave him free reign to use it while he paid the bill
he therfore let his son go 2000 texts over his limit which resulted in the high bill so he should pay up and teach his son not to

THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE TO BE 18 TO GET A CONTRACT !!!!! if parents want to be stupid and let their kids have it they deserve everything they get
Look at posts 5 & 10 if they arent sarcastic I dont know what is. Me and op cant be the only ones guilty of getting a contract phone for their child. You think you are saving money by getting a free phone and what you think is a reasonable allowance for texts and calls. I dont think as you put dont think I deserve everything I get neither does op! Unfortunately you live and you learn and dont realise the extent to which your kids can use their phones. I hold my hands up to making a mistake and getting my son a contract one.

but surely everyone knows that having a contract gets bills and you dont often think about what your spending but as an adult thats okay its your bill but to give the phone to a CHILD is just a slippery slope cause all they see is a thing they can text their mates on internet silly apps and music

as parent you should teach your child about this before you buy them a phone not just give it them then have the audacity to moan when they run up a 300 pounds bill
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you

Fair enough OP made a mistake but as I said its the tone of peoples comments I am complaining about not the OPs parenting skills and not realising the extremes your kids will go to with mobile phones etc. I am not having an argument on here its not why I come on here, I am just here for advice and bargains etc what the website is meant for.

To be fair, the tone of peoples comments has been provoked by the tone of the OP: "rip off... my situation has been ruthlessly exploited..."
Unfortunately you live and you learn and dont realise the extent to which your kids can use their phones.
The OP didn't learn. They didn't admit that it was their or their son's (he is 14:whistle:) mistake and kept blaming the provider.

surfbabe10 - I think grumbler has hit the nail on the head, although maybe there are a few more comments on the thread than needed.

Regular contributors in general do try to help genuine posters - particularly newbies. However, when people invoke the "blame someone else culture" they do tend to raise the hackles.

I am no defender of networks when they are in the wrong and you can bet if mobilejunkie is in Voda's corner then OP is barking up the wrong tree.

It's not that we are unsympathetic to the predicament OP is in, but in order to get any result, OP needs to take on board that Voda are in the right and OP needs to approach them in that light. Given the number of posts supporting the network in this case, I hope that OP has changed their stance on who is at fault and maybe they might get some result.

Post 5 was not meant to be sarcastic . It was more of a question in that multiple posts on here are exactly the same as yours high bill how can i get out of paying it .Why should other users subsidise you and if they do i may as well jump on the bandwagon instead of paying my bills .
Posters dont say how can i prevent this happening again its how can i get out of paying the bill get a reduction etc .

I understand what the Op is trying to suggest here and before anyone starts flaming me i agree with the Responsible decision taking stance that 14 year old Kids should be on Pay as you go.But The op needs to look again at the terms and conditions of the agreement carefully and decide to contact VodaFone to pay off the outstanding balances and port your sons number with a extra surcharge to the Pay as you go tariff so he can keep his number and just top up as normal. As a ex eployee in the mobile industry you will struggle to find a way to get Vodafone to bow down Gracefully and take or wavied the charges off your account. When you have taken the contracts out you have agreed to a monthly network service provided by VodaFone and Vodafone no matter how lousey they can be at time from what others have said here have some security in place for it's users like Online Billing account infomation to monitor your calls.

I too am a vodafone customer and have worked for them in the call centre in Warrington,Cheshire when VodaFone was owned by SinglePoint. I know most of their new tariffs come with Unlimited Txts which for my sitution i do not use being out of the U.k at the present time but i clearly remember watching Anne Robinson's watchdog a while ago that Unlimited is used as a marketing tool and does not mean Unlimited texts, Just like some Broadband providers used to say Unlimited Broadband when it could be capped to upload/download speeds in busy peak times,

Clearly VodaFone will have a policy in place let's say for example customer A takes out a shiney new Phone and uses the Unlimited text feature thinking he send 1000000000000 texts (If possible) and never get a bill for it then as in your sitution you receive your bill of xxx amount take in consideration if you have both contracts together both contacts will be running from one tariff such as a family Tariff for example which means your usage and unbilled calls or text are added also.

I would in your sitution pay the Bill as vodafone will suspend the fones if you refuse the Bill they wont care they just tell your credit file to defult after 6 months of waiting and pass the debt on to a Dcm company or baliffs to act upon it, which would cost more then the original balance with their fees added.

When i worked for the company in the early 90's i had to deal with 1000000's of calls a day with same situtions like the Op has posted and like so many same situtions were genuine and heartwarming but Vodafone has to act like that because there the network Facilty and guidelines are in place to monitor accounts and usage I.,e Fair use policy like Bt have, When you got the contract from Vodafone who has Privisonlly provided the airtime and agreeement and like any business They need to keep in profit and charge for the airtime and usage from texts to other networks and that can take so many more days to show in unbilled as that data needs to be pasted form say for example 02 or orange ect. And back to your provider

I would pay your bill and ask for a disconnection fee if possible or port the number of your sons to pay as you go normally that would be around 30 quid to do when a contract ends mind.

This is why I'd never allow my 2 teens to have a contract phone. Once they're working, they can get one, but no way am I shelling out for one when they could run massive bills up.

The only person here who is wrong is your son. He used the texts, so they have to be paid for. Vodafone just want what they are due which is perfectly right.

Sorry for the long post before but you need to find out exactly what tariff is been setup for you and your son as i know the procedure for pay monthly Sim only can be 30 days contract so you could see about changing the tariff on your sons account then firing off a notice to disconnection for that mobile number to vodafone after 30 days. Just a idea
