rip off charges for exceeding text limit on my son's phone whose contract I pay

I dont understand this at all, its almost like giving a contract mobile phone that can download a million premium rate ringtones or telephone Botswana for a giggle to a 14 year old boy to do what he wants with, is almost, a bad idea.0

Agreed. There is a good reason why they don't tend to give contracts to under 18's...they can't manage their money and 50p pocket money is hard to reclaim through bailiffs.

I think this depends on the boy and on the parents. In this case I see some similarity between the boy's and the parent's attitude.
I have never had any problems with my son. And he had got a contract mobile with just 100 minutes p.m. well before reaching 14.0 -
Just to clarify my views, because on looking back my comments could be interpreted in a way that I didn't intend.
I'm not a for a second suggesting that the OP is a bad parent, far from it. I certainly could never make such a statement based on one forum topic and I'm sure it isn't the case.
What I was saying in a rather obtuse way was that vodafone cannot be held responsible for the actions of a 14 year old boy, particularly when the contract was taken out in the parent's name.0 -
Sounds like you took out the wrong contract. Did you set an account limit?
Better get him a paper round and let him pay it off.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
this is why you dont give kids contract phones
plus its not rip of 2000 texts at 12p = 240 pounds so vodaphone are right to be fair you gave your son the phone so you too have to pay for it why should your mobile network reimburse you because of pure stupidity
id understand if it were 20 or even 200 texts but 2000 thats more than i send in a year nearlyReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. I do agree with the fact its not really vodaphones fault but I really don't think there is any need for all the sarcastic comments. Op came on here for advice this is supposed to be a friendly site. I have been in a similar position with my son but he only went £35 over his monthly allowance which was bad enough. I have learnt from this an regularly check his account to make sure how much of his allowance he has used an as soon as his contract is up he will be going on payg and using his paper round money to pay for it so he gets some idea of the value of money!0

You're kind of right. In a sense, the OP is getting hit by some pent up feelings from the people here. Everyday it seems there's a least one new post in this forum a lone about "how do I get out of paying [for what I've used]?". It's quite annoying.
If the OP had said 'my son did this, how do I stop it happening again in the future?', I'm sure there would be little to no 'judgement'. But no, the OP just doesn't want to pay for the mistake they and their son made.0 -

no ones being sarcastic they are being truethful
the op brought his son a Contract phone
he gave him free reign to use it while he paid the bill
he therfore let his son go 2000 texts over his limit which resulted in the high bill so he should pay up and teach his son not to
THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE TO BE 18 TO GET A CONTRACT !!!!! if parents want to be stupid and let their kids have it they deserve everything they getReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected.
