Sending hugs and much love to everyone this Christmas who has lost someone close to them. I am so glad this thread is still going strong and continuing to be there for people who need it. Special hugs to you Stormybay on coming up to the end of your first year and to cornish lady.

Thank you all for your kind words. Forgive me if I'm a bit slow in replying but I'm between ISP's at the moment and am on Dial-up (it's torture after broadband) hopefully will be sorted in a couple of days.

Not sure if I'm asking in the right place, but does anyone know how long bereavement payment takes to come through? (the £2000 one)
I applied on 15th October and have heard nothing. I rang last week and was told that no decision had been made yet, but shouldn't be much longer, no idea what that means!
I thought it was to help pay for the funeral, but that bill has come and gone, luckily I was able to dredge up enough to cover it.
Any ideas anyone?
I am now ensconced on Sky broadband so am back online, thank goodness.0 -
I've just double checked my records and my payment arrived less than 4 wks after Ian died. So going by my experience I would have expected to have heard something by now.
I would be inclined to get a close friend or relative to call them on your behalf and politely demand to know when it will be arriving. With Christmas round the corner you want to have the payment banked before they shut up shop until the new year. They will want to speak to you initially but tell them you want some one to speak on your behave and hand the phone over. Also point out the fact that you have had the funeral bill (just don't tell them it has been paid unless they ask you) might chivvy them up.Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
Thank you AnW'sMum, I will do that. I think it may have been complicated by the fact that the same form is used for Bereavement Allowance, which I qualify for also but because I am on Incapacity benefit (I have meniere's disease) it gets that taken off it so I am entitled to (by my reckoning) £5.95 a week.
Complicated aint it!!0 -

Big hugs to all those who need it.
I too was thinking of Stormy and this thread the other day, a friend of mine lost her Grandfather recently and it struck a cord.No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
~I hope you are all bearing up. I have thought about many of you over the year and often feel that I should do more to help others who have lost.
