    You send it here :-

    HM Revenue & Customs
    Pay As You Earn
    PO Box 1970
    Liverpool
    L75 1WX

....... if her income is less than £8105 then fill in an R85 in order tax isn't deducted from interest at source. You file it with her Bank. But check first as some accept a 'phone call instead.

What a nightmare it is trying to get the working from home allowance from previous years. First we spoke to tax office on the help line. Told to put in writing which we did. Letter came back saying we needed to give full details of time claiming from, which we had already provided in the previous letter, plus details of annual leave. Sent that letter off. Another letter came saying that claim had been referred to a person who specialised in this type of claims. Received another letter stating that claim had been agreed but had to make a claim in writing under " Claim for Overpayment Relief under Schedule 1AB TMA 1970". They referred to enclosed form but there wasn't one. So another letter has gone off to them to claim for year 2010-2011 under this schedule. 2011-2012 has to be claimed by adjusting that tax return online but they do not state where it comes on the tax return anybody know??

As you mention annual leave I presume your claim relates to a specific employment so wouldn't you just amend the entries relating to the relevant job to include the amount under job expenses?

Just enter the figures on the Tax Return like you would normally enter the expenses.

The schedule you have quoted above is just a means by how you can submit the amended details to HMRC when an amended tax return is out of time... So obviously if you are in time (for 2011/12) then just adjust the TR.

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes I did understand about the “Claim for Overpayment Relief under Schedule 1AB TMA 1970”.

My complaint was about the rigmarole before they agree to it.

Also the letter says the enclosed form when there isn't one. The help pages for employment allowable expenses do not cover working from home.

A lot of people would give up after a few letters. In this case the application was for my son, and as I have more time, I acted as his accountant and didn't give up!!!
