Also, Sky's a monopoly, as is Virgin Media,

So they are both monopolies in the non-terrestrial broadcasting industry? How does that work then, how can they both be monopolies in the same industry?

Monopoly: The exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service.

I am still going to cancel the Times if Rebekah is not gone this week.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

These forums have got a bit bigger than Martin alone.

I don't post a lot. That does not mean I am not a regular visitor to the site and Forum, I do visit a lot!

I am taking Martins and others advice by voting with me feet. I have unsubscribed from the weekly e-mail and I will delete myself from the Forums.

I am doing this for Moral reasons.

Being an ex serviceman with a young daughter the news of the world allegations have pulled my strings harder than others.

Martins refusal to step down was a issue, his self justification and "NOTW Defence" i.e it was under a different regime and a long time ago! was the tipping point.

I decided to boycott the NOTW as soon as the story broke.

I decided to boycott MSE as soon as I read Martiins Blog,

    Next time you comment on a banker, business, millionaire, MP or Civil Servant having no moral fibre, consider this;

When you actually had the opportunity to make a stand, you looked at the options and walked away from the families of our troops, you walked away from the parents of the Soham school girls, you walked away from the families and victims of London terrorism and you said "I'll carry on working for Murdoch and all that he stands for because it gets my message across".

You badly misjudged the strength of feeling, of revultion and made a poor choice.

You forgot that all your worth is in your reputation - and you just had a Black Thursday.

That's what I said! How many times are we told to "vote with our feet"

Martin, I listened to your Radio 5 interview today and feel that your credibility has been severely damaged. At least now that the News of the World has folded you can save face and not have to battle with your 'moral dilemma'.

I hope that you maintain your 'role in society' working alongside Rebekah Brooks with a job in a future Murdoch equivalent to the News of the World.

What a poor example of voting with your feet.

Had this not got a little bit out of hand? Are people targeting the wrong person to be a figure of hate? Would people not be better off going after Rebekah Wade/Brookes or Andy Coulson rather than (sorry Martin) a rather low-level bit part player.

I just feel that having read this thread that if this level of pressure could be directed at the people actually directly responsible for the hacking and scandal it might just have a greater effect.

I do genuinely appreciate what Martin has done in the past with MSE and financial education but feel he's dropped the ball seriously on this issue... on balance however he's been a force for good in this world so far so maybe he can take a lesson from all the response on here.

I don't think Martin is a force for good in the world at all - he's just a human being with positive points and flaws, the same as someone else.
Yes, the phone tapping was repulsive but
    a) it was some time ago
    b) nobody has yet been charged, and the real truth will not out until that happens. That's why we have courts in this country.
    c) it's given an opportunity for politicians who have been poked by Murdoch or been afraid of him to turn on NI. It's a politicians feeding frenzy.
For those reasons I don't feel that it was a shameful thing for him to continue his column.

Either way, the decision has been made for him now.

Right that's it, i'm off to paint bomb Mystic Meg's car for her horrific collaboration with The Sun over the years. Clearly by telling us our star-signs she is fully endorsing sister paper NOTW's actions. Hang them all... ;)

Has Martin made a bad judgement, clearly - I bet he didn't expect this reaction! Should he be made the target of all this abuse? Of course not. He hasn't been hacking anyone's phone as far as we are aware. He had a gig writing a column in a paper years after a series of incidents that have thrown the paper into disrepute.

The ethos of this website is to save money where you can. How many of you would so readily give up one of your part-time jobs if it was found out that a member of staff who you have never met committed a crime years before you worked there?
