I agree completely. I'm unfollowing him on Twitter, unsubscribing from the emails, and I won't visit this site again. I know MSE has plenty of visitors and I probably won't be missed, but it's important to make a stand for what you believe in.
It's a shame Martin Lewis doesn't feel the same way, and that the lure of money proved more important to him than taking a stand against unacceptable behaviour. His mealy-mouthed excuse that his campaigning is more important than a protest against corruption in News International shows just how hollow his ethics are.
Two words: Overreaction ... hey look at that I only needed one word afterall.
That Martin Lewis really is worse than Harold Shipman isn't he? What kind of horrific monster trains as a journalist and then goes on to write for a newspaper? The very thought of it makes me ill. Next we will have firemen saving people from fires and dentists working on people's teeth. Why won't the government step in to put an end to Martin's reign of terror!!!!!! :rotfl:0 -
MARTIN, PLEASE LEAD DON'T FOLLOW ON THIS CRITICAL CONSTITUTIONAL ISSUE
The News of the World brand was destroyed because it is Murdoch who taints it and every other Media and News organisation he controls, especially the Sun which he hopes will take the place of the News of the World on Sunday.
In the UK, Murdoch will forever be associated with the most caustic and corrosive qualities that damage him, his media and news properties and those who advertise in them.
The Murdoch Super Brand is a horror story associated with the following qualities: cynical, brutal, merciless, venal, lascivious, authoritarian, bully, oppression, blackmail, corrupt, criminal, salacious, heartless, soulless, dark, sinister, menacing, repulsive, fetid, rancid, cold-blooded, disgusting, etc.
These are reinforced by the cynical and brutal closure of the News of the World to:- get rid of the furor generated by the criminal behaviour of News International Senior Management, selected journalists and researchers
- save operating costs by closing a 168 year old tabloid
- force the Department of Culture Media and Sport's Minister and Ofcom to approve the takeover of BSkyB claiming that the reduction in a News Media property enables News Corporation to take charge of a new property.
This is the reptilian logic of Murdoch which does not fool the public.
He has made himself a constitutional and existential threat to the government of the UK and to the Monarchy.
He is and has been the most malign, evil and unscrupulous influence on the British Political system, whose irresponsible and unaccountable power in the media means that politicians have been afraid to do anything or make any decisions that do not first meet with the approval of Murdoch.
The prejudicial damage to the interests of every individual person in the UK and to the UK as a whole is through Murdoch's ability to blackmail the body politic and manipulate the public consciousness, bending it in his own image and interests.
The News of the World scandal has exposed Murdoch for what he is and all the servile, lick-spittle managers and politicians he operates through.
David Cameron and his minister Jeremy Hunt are in danger of never being able to free themselves from their close relationship to Murdoch.
What you are witnessing is a game-changing moment in the UK. It is essential that companies believe the potential damage to their organisations and companies by continuing a relationship with Murdoch.
If ANYONE takes advertising time and space in New Corp news and media properties they will be associating their brands with Murdoch and not the media or news channel they use.
DON'T RUSH TO ADVERTISE IN THE SUN ON SUNDAY!!
DON'T RUSH TO BUY THE SUN ON SUNDAY!!0 -
^^^Glad we cleared that up. I will just content myself with expecting Rebekah Brooks to go....:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I wont unsubscribe to this site and the emails yet... but if Martin Lewis writes for the Sun or The Sun on Sunday I will.
Dont be a TSOSer!God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0 -

Behave, Martin explained his reasoning, has nobody on here to answer to, and gave a logical explanation to carry on.
I don't condone what NoTW did, and am not disappointed to see the paper removed from circulation, but would you give the same response to the 2-500 other people who were still working for them when the paper got pulled.
Should they work for no newspaper again, the Sun appears to be out, presumably the Times too being owned by the same people. What about the Daily Mail that were previously reprimanded?
People should be held accountable for their actions but not the actions of others.0 -
I won't be leaving the site (if I did, I doubt people would even notice!
), but I can understand why people are upset with Martin over this.
Personally, I enjoy the forums as I've had some bargains, plus occasionally I post comps etc which I believe will be of use/benefit to others.
But, I'd find it hard to continue using any links on MSE which benefit Martin and the website, based on his blog.0 -
I think all this anger directed at Martin is out of order, the fact is that in order to help the most amount of people he needs to be published in the place most of them read. And the ones who need the most help would have been the sort to buy the NOTW. By refusing to write in the NOTW it would have lead to many people being less educated about finance, and god knows this country needs educating about finance - even a lot of people who have discovered this site make unspeakably moronic comments about money on a regular basis.
Assuming this is more prevelant in his own personal reasoning rather than just wanting the money I think it's fair enough for him to have carried on had they not scrapped the paper.0 -
This sprang to mind as I was reading your blog..
First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the communists
and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me -
and by then there was no one left to speak out for me.
The German anti-Nazi activist,
Pastor Martin Niemöller
This maybe unjust of me Martin because I think you do wonderful work ( and I hear what you say about reaching people) but I have always abhorred tabloid journalism.... so I'm surprised you have ever worked for them.. I'm voting with head and heart on this one as I don't see evidence in the paper ( which I looked through at the weekend) that they are any less scurriless than they always have been.
Here's another that i think is quite relevant :-
"Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone."Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
