  • OK, I'll be radical...no gadget (I know you said object but I suspect it's the same) is going to make you OS. My friend who is very OS, has not one electrical gadget in her kitchen. In fact her 5 year old looked at my Kenwood Chef on the work surface the other day and asked what it was...at first glance a kid who's never eaten a home made cake yes? No, a child who's mother sells home baked cakes but uses only a bowl and a wooden spoon! In fact, said 5 year old boy can cream butter and beat egg whites in a way that most adults would be pleased with!

I've got a whole bunch of gadgets but she's way more OS than me! (said 5 year old boy is also very adept at looking after their chickens and is in charge of egg collecting every day!)

I'm talking about literally anything, like knitting needles, yarn, plant pots or growing kits. Things that help people everyday. I have barely anything in my house (we've been here 6 months and only got a sofa 4 weeks ago!)

    This is what I'd buy,

For cooking, a good sized saucepan, look at the range in the shop and buy the biggest they have, save for it if you have too.

Plastic food boxes, addis do a good range, you can wash out and re-use.

A couple of good sizes oven proof dishes, with lids if possible.

A stick blender or a really good sieve. But you need a sieve anyway.

    A big mixing bowl.

Sewing kit/machine, hand sewing needles - buy needle repair kits - I thought this was for repairing needles :D:o it means darning etc. Not that I've a clue how to darn.

Happy Birthday btw for when it comes :T

Edited to add, plant pots, now your talking, whats your garden like. These another board for this btw, just above this one or below?
  • I would go into breakdown if my kenwood chef died, it has taken the place of the breadmaker which I only used for making dough, not very well at that.
Plus I love the attachments especially the mincing machine

A sugar thermometer, jam pan, jam funnel and jelly bag are a must if you are making jams and chutneys
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Depends how OS you want to be, whether you want to rely on things that need electricity to operate?

An old fashioned rotary hand whisk

A mincer (lakeland do one that can also be used for sausage making)

    Good casseroles

    A set of scales.

    A jam funnel.

Hob to oven cooking gear - short handled cast iron frying pan for example.

Sewing kit. You can do quite a lot with second hand fabrics. i still reject letting ex have the hand sowing machine.

For the garden, a good pair of secuteurs.

In that case, either a machete, or a brushwood clearer.
