Fridge Essentials?

Options
My fridge has finally been fixed and is waiting to be filled with goodies :j It's a good opportunity to build a stock of OS basics - but I can't think what to buy!

What's on your 'fridge essentials' list and why? Is there anything that always ends up lurking at the back of the fridge?

    Milk
    cheese
    eggs
butter or whatever you like on bread
    lard
    bacon

with the above you can always make a scratch meal at any time of day or night. Everything else is a welcome extra!

Just to say I like to keep cold meats, vegetables, salads etc just the above I NEVER let run out.

TBH I drink more milk in the course of any given week than beer... but I've just invested in some Robinson's barley squash.

So - cold water should be in the fridge too at this time of year and, of course, you should have been spending the whole winter stockpiling ice cubes in the freezer.

I have a friend who BUYS them!

Eggs, milk, butter, cheese, dripping, margarine, pesto, various table sauces, marmalade, salami, fruit juice, cream soda, veggies.

Last night I made a simple meal by frying up chopped onions, squashed cherry tomatoes and diced salami, and stirred in beaten eggs and some leftover cream until it set. It was gorgeous :)
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

OK then squeaky I'll hang my head in shame, but my family do use loads and I have lots of visitors, and a grandson and a smallish fridgefreezer and no possibility of a bigger one, and nowhere to put another one and I'm waffling to try to avoid saying *whispers* i've bought icecubes too !

i have to admit that shock of all horrors i buy them too.
coz the amount we get through, theres no way i could have enough time to freeze that amount......
but i also thought ice cubes shouldn`t be kept too long if made in the freezer due to possible bacteria....well all i have are those little trays that aren`t covered...
but please tell me a way to make and store them safely.
    cheers

Can't you just use the trays and then decant into a freezable tupperware type box. They dont take that long to freeze so you could repeat this several times a day if you need loads. Only takes a min to empty and reload the tray.
