    Try and see people in person as I think that will help get across the immediacy of the need.

    If one person fails to help you, note the date, time, person's name and organisation and exactly what you requested of them and add it to you list. Put the list down in front of every person you see until someone goes that extra effort.

    The helpline will give you advice.

    A local group willgive you and the children a social life. Saved my soul when I became a single parent.

  • thank you i will get on to everyone mentioned here and in to see those i can hopefully they will offer some help tomorrow
  • i am in greater manchester now a place called ashton
  • i will google them see if they are anywhere near
  • found an mp that covers the area they have surgeries twice a month just trying to find out when
  • mp is at the town hall but not till tuesday next week, i have found a salvation army a few mile away from here so will see if i can get there by walking off a map, i really hope they can help us get through till some benefits paid or i dont no what we will do next

    Phone the MP first thing - they may be able to arrange to see you.

    Did you ever report your partner's violence to the police? If so, it may help to pass an incident number over to the MP.

    Write down what you want to say before you make the phone call, and say that you've written it down because you're nervous (as it may sound slightly odd otherwise). Don't be afraid to pause and check the list. You must be in such a muddle.

    You have done the right thing to be out of that situation for you and the children, even if it is a struggle for a little while.
