Thanks for the blog link, I stayed up past my bedtime reading her blog and a couple of the ones she follows.... And at least one good thing came out of it, I decided I DON'T need a new pair of v high heels for my holibobs (even if they are reduced to £8), if I don't have a pair that goes with my clothes in the cupboard then my sister surely will... And as I am 5'10'' anyway I don't need anything that high!! And in all probability will wear flippy floppies the entire week anyhow. Small steps, but something I suppose!

I do find it rather astounding that Mr Bob so obviously considers all the money "his" to pocket if he pleases... or spend. What would he do without you?!

I do that as well lotti, i read a lot of blogs and i think because we are like minded..as in we all want to debt bust and live a better life, then it follows that other blogs will be of interest.

I am glad about the shoes:D:T

Mr.B, well at times i think he just likes to have cash in his pocket..i must admit he would give the kids his last penny. He has always been the same and i doubt that i will be able to change him..he honestly does not think anything of it at all and he can't understand why i do.:o He is out of the circle anyway, so far out he is in the depths of the outer quadrent in deep space nine..:D:rotfl:

Took the words out of my mouth, needing! Must follow that one - need all the help we can get in this debt busting lark.

We do, i like the fact that she has made all the same mistakes we all have. They work as a good team together and think that is definitely the key to it all.
If i could have got Mr.B on board years ago, i certainly think i would have gone a lot further. I find it sad that i have wasted years arguing about money to the extent that it has really pushed us to the brink. Why? When he is supposed to be my partner? He would rather listen to the cc company's lose lots of money, instead of negotiating he could have been debt free about 3 years ago. :(

I am not unhappy BTW- just feeling in quite a reflective and ponderous mood at the moment. I have a good job, i have a better social life, i am giving back to the community with my volunteer work, my children are grown into polite and respectful adults( they have their moments though) so i want to be in a position where i can help them further and enjoy my life more instead of worrying over everything.

We are approaching the halfway mark with our IVA, and I already have a cunning plan (didn't you know my middle name was Baldrick?) for what to do when the IVA finishes.

A few years back we got a mortgage deal which meant that the bulk of the loan was at a fixed rate for 15 years!!! (Got in just right, before the good deals vanished). Consequently all the changes in interest rates have hardly affected us at all.

I have calculated that after the IVA finishes we will have about 5 years left before the fixed rate deal ends. Whatever monthly payment is being made into the IVA at the end of the term, half that amount will be paid into the mortgage account as an overpayment every month. As an example, at the moment the IVA payment is £600 a month, so that would mean I would have £600 extra to spare each month when the IVA finishes, so I might as well pay £300 a month extra off the mortgage - that's £3600 a year - £18000 in five years extra paid off! Consequently, if we have to revert to a standard rate mortgage there will be less of a balance to worry about.

Well, that's the cunning plan anyway. Just need to make sure OH doesn't get any bright ideas about how he (sorry, we!) should spend the extra money we will have at our disposal each month.
One life - your life - live it!
  • Sounds like a plan nargleblast. I'm carrying on putting away £450 a month into ISA once I have finished paying off debt. Have approx £8000 endowment shortfall to look forward to in Oct 2014 plus a couple of daughters of marriagable age within that period too so it's a case of carrying on looking after every penny very carefully for the foreseeable future. Do think it'll be more fun saving up than paying back though but it will sting when it comes to handing over the mortgage money!
