I've never heard of this before! Try leaving a sweater or something else you have worn out and see if he takes to lying on that instead. HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

This is common in cats who are a little insecure. Its because its a place that is drenched (quite literally) in their smell so they feel safe. It will pass, just try not to make an issue about it and they will soon venture out to your pile of clean clothes, freshly washed bedsheets, best lambswool jumper then you will be begging them to go back in the litter box0

Put a piece of paper on the floor - they'll fight to get on it0

How old is the cat that's doing this?
I ask as I've found my 15yo lying in the litter tray a few times now. She only seems to do this when the tray and contents have all been cleaned. I tend to use a mix of vinegar/water solution to clean which she likes to lick. Whilst I do think the behaviour's a tad mad to say the least when I'm at home all I have to do is shake the treat box and she comes running.
I've noticed the older my cats get the more they want me to be in one place doing very little. Whilst I would love to do nothing, house chores need done. I've come to accept that when she lies in the litter tray it's a mix of wanting to lick the vinegarand wanting attention from me.
My only concern is when I start seeing the others queuing to use the loo :rotfl:0 -
The best stuff EVER for getting rid of cat wee smells on carpet and laminate flooring is called Simple Solutions Stain and Odour Remover, you can buy it at Pets at Home or online. It has quite literally saved the carpets from mess from our new puppy and our old cat who took to suddenly peeing indoors. It completely eliminates the odour (so a cat won't go again) and gets the stain out. It works for old odours too, i.e. if you move house and they have had pets. You can put it in carpet cleaners. Fab stuff, cannot recommend it enough.0

Poor lad sounds really stressed, and you throwing him outside just because he has done it again is NOT going to help matters
He doesnt think he's doing anything wrong, he's obviously feeling very insecure and he's just marking his new home as his territory.
You could get another litter tray and put it where he is urinating.
You need to clean it up with an enzyme cleaner to totally get rid of the smell, you may not be able to smell it, but he can, thats prob why he's going back and doing it again.
Spend lots of time with him, try not to let him see any other cats outside.
I hope it gets sorted out soon.

hi
i have a year old netured cat . He is housetrained and does his toilets outside.
He will occassionally use the litter box ( only for a pee), but for some reason his pee will go in the box , round the edge of box and on floor, I haven't caught him so dont know waht he is doing to do this.
Has anyone had this problem and how do i solve it, as cat pee stinks to high heaven.
His box is not tiny and is average sized one from pets at home
many thanks0 -
When my cat got older she couldn't get down as low as before and used to miss the litter tray.
I bought a toilet box all enclosed. lined it with news paper and put the litter tray in there. When and if she missed it was on the news paper and not all over the floor.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

It was simular to THIS to give you an idea.
It was some years ago and I can't remember where I got mine from.
My cat always asked to go out before she got too old and needed an indoor toilet. Would your maybe do the same if there was no litter tray.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
