I've found that the pet spray smells foul to us too. A little spray of diluted lemon juice puts them off going to the same spot (strong lemon hurts them, this is ok). I would also make sure you leave a tiny bit of used litter in so it smells right and not too strange for her when it's very clean.

totally know what you mean! (6, 4, and 18 months :T , eldest 2 still miss the toilet  !)
well, it appears that it was a one off re the po*, but she was sick once last night and once this morning, we have now switched her back to dry food and will keep an eye on her (she has fresh water to drink).
Thanks all for your wise words, it's been much appreciated by me and DH

Oh don't mine is three and I was hoping it got better. At least they're trying to get to the toilet I suppose!
Good luck, and forgot to say well done for taking the little one on. Let us know how you get on.Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early0 -
Wish I'd searched for this thread before.
I bought a big bag of flushable cat litter from ebay completely unaware that it was 'chick crumbs' and that I could buy it at a fraction of the price elsewhere.
I had previously contacted the manufacturers of Catsan for any info they had on flushable cat litters. They just sent me a couple money-off coupons for Catsan.
For anyone that's still using the 'SABIQ' - (scoop and bag it quick!) cat litters, this flushable litter really is the bees knees. I recommend it. The sack I bought has lasted ages, my only comment on it's downside is the 'mealy' smell the (clean) litter has it's taking a while to get used to.0 -
Morrosons sell them, pack of 10 for 49p. Cheapest I've ever seen so farPlease do not feed the Trolls!0

has anyone got any ideas of a cheap way to line my kittens litter tray?
i tried using a carrier bag but it wasnt long enough so i put a bag on each end but the kitten played with the bags and i ended up with litter and poo all over the floor!!!
also what do you find is the best value litter to buy??
another thing is there a cheaper alternative of buying kitten food other than whiskas kitten food or the other major brands??
and one more final question how on earth can i get my german shephard to accept the kitten. he whimpers and creates whenever he sees the kitten as ive kept them apart. ive been told to let them sniff each other whilst the dog is being held and the kitten is on a lap but im too scared!!!!!
I never have used a liner in my life, nor used litter fresheners. With 14 cats, I get through one large 30litre sack of 'sophisticat' wood based litter every month. When the pet shop ran out and I had to buy the nasty catsan type stuff, I went through a big sack in 3 days trying to stop my home stinking as I emptied the trays twice a day.0 -
I dont bother with litter liners, but i can see how they would be handy! Wilko seems them cheaply.
As for your dog and your kitten - you really do need to start introducing them soon.
Best way would be to have your kitten in a cat carrier in the lounge, and let your dog in to sniff the kitten from a safe distance. Stay relaxed, dont panic because they'll sense it.
Make sure you give both your dog and your kitten equal attention, you dont want either to get jealous! Your dog is likely to feel a bit pushed out, so make sure he knows he's still loved.
Give them time, it does take a while, and expect some hissing and growling!:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0 -
a covered tray is best with a flap in it - you won't see/smell the `doings' as quickly & less kicked/scratched out onto your floor!
"zooplus" sells talc scented litter which clumps x 3 absorbancy too. Liners are a waste of money & very messy - best thing is to use clumping litter and bleach & hot water clean out tray every week or so.0 -
we was thinking could you use sawdust instead of cat litter in the litter tray?0
-
I've never tried it but wouldn't have thought it would be a good idea. Very messy I should think, smelly too. Our cat only uses the litter tray if she can't get outside but she does such a good job of trying to cover what she's done there can be litter left all over the place. I hate to think what it would be like if it was sawdust0
