Make sure you clean the areas where they have sprayed well, using something that doesn't smell of amonia (e.g. biological washing powder), this should stop them using a spot just because it smells of cat wee0

two weeks ago we took in a 16 week old kitten (owner didn't want her and had thrown her out  ).
She is gorgeous and is wonderful with my 3 boys (6, 4, 18 months, they're great with her too).
We've bought her a cat loo, and she uses it well. I clean out the po* several times a day (when I've checked it) and wash out the loo and replace litter every other day.
Up until now I've been so proud of the fact she's used her loo, but this morning my 4 year old ran shouting through the house "Teega is Po*ing on the dining room floor :rotfl: ".
I've obviously cleaned it up but basically I'm after advice - what chemical should I use / not use to disinfect the floor (bleach etc) and will she go there again to po*?
The kids are now being excluded from the dining room until it's sorted
oh, and it was a normal po* lol she didn't have the runs  , so don't think it was that she couldn't make it to her loo on time (her loo is in the next room, door was open)

Just clean with a kid/pet safe antibacterial cleaner - I would steer clear of bleach as it is not pleasent stuff...
I wouldn't worry about her continuing to go there - I'm sure she just got caught short - my only other thought would be she felt her loo was too dirty... mine only like pristine throne0 -
ah, poor little thing and she was doing so well too
firstly when it comes to telling them off it must be done straight after the act as they will not understand if it's later
as for cleaning, do not use bleach as the smell actracts them, just use some soapy water, this will easily do the trick, with poo it's easier to deal with, if she starts to wee then you may have a problem, back to the cleaning, once you have used soapy water leave it to dry then you can spray it with something like 'spray and get off' which they don't like the smell of, this is mainly used for wee but it does stop them doing to that area, if there is a smell then vinegar water is great for getting rid of bad smells
your other options is to pull up all the carpets and put down lino ;-)0 -
brilliant, thanks so much for the replies!
To be honest, we've been thrown in the deep end with Teega, she chose us, and we couldn't refuse!
We're lucky that we've had full support from our vet, but would have felt a bit of a wally phoning up for this! *oh, it's her on the phone again* :rotfl:
Also, we have laminate flooring in our dining room, it's much easier when the monkeys have finished dinner to sweep it up!
With regards to the litter tray / loo being dirty, I do wash it out every other day with washing up liquid, rinse it well and dry it before putting in new litter - should I be doing this more often? As said, I do clean out the fresh "whoopsies" (as my eldest calls them!!!) as and when she leaves them  , but would value your opinion on whether this should be done more often!
Again, sorry for being so daft, but have been reading this whole board avidly now for the last 2 weeks since she adopted us! :happyhear

Make sure you are removing the no. 1s as well - you should be fine replacing the litter every couple of days0

my kitten is 12 weeks now and we have had her a few weeks, she has pooped on the floor once, but I had shut her in my room out the way of the tormenting toddler for half an hour and she also had a bit of an upset tum from a change in biscuits, so it hasn't happened again. I cleaned up with wet wipes then antibac spray, and even on carpet that seems to have done the trick.0

Thanks Meeps
I think that because Teega just "arrived" a couple of weeks ago, I really want to do the best for her and worry about every little thing!!
nice to know that it's normal, just hopefully she'll prefer her sparkly clean litter tray next time

Have you tried the pet training spray? The larger supermarkets sell it.You just spary where they peed of weed and they don't tend to go back as they hate the smell. Please do not feed the Trolls!0
