Hopefully there'll still be some left in-store on Boxing Day because Comet has withdrawn click 'n collect and wants more than it costs to deliver it.

Perhaps it'll be best not to bother and I'll just put Mrs C outside every morning and let her stand in the garden. . .
  • thanks OP i clicked and collected today. just needs setting up now
  • I reserved 2 of those through 'click and colect' at Stockport. I received confirmation emails as well. Drove miles to find no trace of my items, customer care in the store could not care less! Emailed Comet online, received a reply but hardly any joy:

'Thank you for your email message.

I was sorry to read of the problems you have experienced with our click and collect service. Unfortunately, the problem seems to have been caused by a stock discrepancy on our systems.

I would like to assure you that this is not our usual standard of service and our ongoing stock takes and customer services training will ensure that incidents like this do not happen again in the future.

If you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact me using the Ask a Question facility on the website http://comet.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/comet.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php or by telephone on 08705 425425.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.'

I guess it will be worth phoning to confirm the availability instore before you undertake a long journey to collect goods you may have reserved online! For myself, I would not use this service again.
  • Picked 3 up from Guildford today. Also got 2 ATM piggy banks and a coin sorter while I was there. I Can't believe that I have started on next years presents already :)

TBH I took one to the counter, they told me to put it back as it would be 'put aside for me'.... I gave them my reference number and they faffed around for 5 minutes so I picked it up off the shelf again and they tutted at me  They're not the best customer service squad are they? hey
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • I was having problems getting my unit to receive the time signal, but I've just got it to behave temporarily.

In the middle of the house, it will not sync at all. I tried it by an upstairs window earlier this evening with no success.

I've now just put it in the same window (facing southwest-ish, which from Sheffield is about as close to pointing towards Rugby as I can get ;) ) and it syncs after about a minute once I manually ask it to. I wonder if the time of night has anything to do with it - thinking back to when I was a kid playing with radios, when I used to be able to pick different stuff up at night compared to the day time.

Our house is virtualy in the middle of a forest so we're used to getting bad radio reception. What worked for me was when you first get it to sync with the time signal put it outside for a little while (ie on the doorstep..for 30 mins worked for me)

Now the time should be bang on!

Once you put it in situ (bedroom etc.) will try re-sync the time at 3am? each day (radio icon flashes). If you live in a bad signal area (like me) it may only realisticly update properly once every 2-3 days... however dont wory about this as mine is second perfect to the 'speaking clock'! ;)

    Merry Christmas bargainseekers!! :j :j

It should not make any difference to this as a 60kHz VLF (very low frequency) signal is used to broadcast the time. These frequencies are used to transmit signals to submarines all over the world.

From the 1st April 2007 the signal will come from Anthorn in Cumbria, when the radio station at Rugby will close down for good.
