Tyres - What is the Truth?
Comments
-
I don't live in a city, I live in an area with medium to large towns, rural areas, and busy trunk roads. And I can honestly say that for each hour I drive, I have to take avoiding action at least once. And each time someone takes emergency avoiding action, brakes or tyres are usually pushed towards their limits.
And here we have the crux of the matter, I drive about 300 miles a week through relatively built up country 'A' roads, towns and the motorway - I never have to brake sharply or take any avoiding action each and every day. You must be doing something wrong that you have this happen to you every day. Over the last 4 months or so I have driven to France 4 times and again experienced no hard braking or avoiding action.
And here I don't refer to braking so hard that the brand of tyre would make a difference, I mean I don't brake hard at all.0 -
I find it really hard to believe that you don't seem to know the real world difference between a decent tyre and a budget tyre, the difference in levels of grip available is massive.
I never drive at a level that it becomes noticeable, simples. I do the speed limit a lot so it has nothing to do with speed either.0 -
You'll break traction on these tyred well below the speed limit. As I stated before its completely up to you if you wish to use budget tyres and they obviously work for you, but what i really dislike is people talking about them being equal to a decent Tyre as this couldn't be further from the truth, a decent Tyre will save your !!! one day, or worse a kids life. Simples
Drum brakes work, and will stop your car, would you want them on all four corners? I sure as hell wouldn't0 -
And the fitters familes, and the fitters friends vehicles are fitted with top spec tyres too. :rotfl:
I will point out for those people of lower intellect.
The mechanics employed by the Ambulance Service in London are called "fitters".
What exactly was added to this thread by your petulant post?
I take it the point that all service vehicles regardless of the use are fitted with premium quality tyres has escaped you totally?0 -

If you can find one, phone a friend, and ask them to explain it to you. Or even read it out loud to you slowly.0 -
The difference is also massive on a Zafira driven normally in both wet and dry conditions. I expected there to be a difference, but I couldn't believe how big the difference was.
The mk2 Zafira is a slightly wayward vehicle on Michelin Energy tyres, that is to be expected as they are a low rolling resistance "eco" compound.
The Michelin Primacy is currently used on all the Zafira mk2's and is an improvement on the previous GoodYear tyres they fitted, but probably on par with the Continental tyrs they came with when new, though I have only driven one Zafira with the Continentals fitted and it only had 2000 miles on the clock, even though it was 2 yrs old as the time due to being used by the LARP lot to test the new digital radios prior to the run out of the digital system.
With the Michelin Energy tyres they were prone to "wagging the tail", the ABS also kicked in a lot earlier than on the other tyres, for example when braking hard approaching a hazard if there was a pothole or raised manhole cover the ABS would cut in even when not braking that hard.0 -
It only takes the 1 occasion that you do have to take emergency avoiding action, and that could be the 1 occasion that kills you (or someone else).
I could get killed crossing the road or walking along side it
I could get food poisoning
I could get carbon monoxide poisoning
I could spend more money to try to minimise these unlikely events from happening......... but I don't.0 -
Has the world gone mad???
Tyres are the only part of the car that keeps you on the road.
Buy good tyres, the is no other way of saying it.
You have an Eos, you could have bought a cheaper cabriolet, but you didn't. You get what I'm saying.....
Load of folk on here will tell you to buy the cheap crap. At perhaps £100/200 difference over 4 tyres over perhaps 2 years, you are talking £1 or £2 a week for safety. If you cannot afford that, you shouldn't be driving full stop or you have your priorities seriously screwed up.0 -

So your reply is another petulant, pointless meaningless post.
Blimey you must have been turned down for the Polic, Fire and Ambulance Sercices then eh?
Your childish little digs only show you up to be ignorant and uninformed.0
