Op doesn't mention an agreement before they paid, in fact quite the opposite, they knew that it wouldn't be getting combined postage before they paid - if i am reading it right.
Yes I would combine postage as a seller, but as buyer I wouldn't leave a neg as nothing was agreed before I bought. I still have the items at the price I agreed to. I might mark down on postage but that's about all.
But by the same token you didn't know how much they would cost to send or whether the seller would send them separately. By paying for separate postage, the buyer should get them sent separately, since the seller is making quite a bit in extra profit off the postage if they are sent combined - hence the request for combined postage.

It does sellers no favours at all to do this if this is how buyers genuinely feel about it.

Exactly - the agreement was that postage would NOT be combined, hence the seller should've send them individually.

Personally I'd contact the seller, point out that they only spent £2 on postage, and charged £6, so could you have a partial refund.

If they say no, then I'd be inclined to leave either 4 neutrals, with 1* for P&P and comms, or if their reply was rude, then I'd leave 4 negs.

Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Maybe its just me that wouldn't leave a neg then.

When I buy, I look through all the listings and chose the seller that can deliver the thing or things I want at the cheapest price. I certainly wouldn't whine about it afterwards (not enough to leave a neg anyway).
There are sellers who's postage would work out more expensive even after they have combined postage.

No I wouldn't neg either. Although I would have checked BEFORE buying/bidding if it was something that worried me. I wouldn't buy and then try and negotiate the price down.

Again, the OP paid because they assumed the postage was (a) reasonable and (b) reasonable for two packages to be sent separately.

There's no way for them to tell before the fact whether or not either condition was going to be fulfilled. As it stands the seller has overcharged by £4, which is pretty bad if you ask me - or any other buyer. Sellers who do this do so risking bad feedback, which affects their ability to trade in the long run - so why do it?

Yes the OP may well have paid because they assumed the postage was (a) reasonable and (b) reasonable for two packages to be sent separately. All I am stating is that I wouldn't have bought the 4 items unless I was happy with the overall price even if the seller did NOT combine and reduce P&P. If I felt the overall cost with the 4 lots of P&P was too much then I wouldn't have bought without first checking that they would be happy to reduce it. As long as I got the items I wanted at an overall price I am happy to pay I couldn't care less what the stamp value is against the charged amount.

Having said that as a seller I ALWAYS combine and reduce P&P where I can as I know most buyers do not think like me (or no eye deer...LOL)

Someone just bought 2 items from me and paid straight away. I'd put £2.50 each postage so he paid £5. The combined postage came to £1.72 so I refunded £2 by PayPal as I thought that was fair. I must be too soft.

Seller said they could not offer combined post and packing and OP accepted that statement. However seller did then combine postage and has not offered a partial refund of the saving - so neutral for lying and low stars where appropriate.

Are you by any chance 100% and 5 stars?
That's the way it should be done, the seller makes a profit, the buyer pays a fair price, and comes back again.
