  • DH rang me from work to say "if your going to your mates for coffee don't get used to the heating as we can't afford to put ours on yet"

What is this 'heating' of which you speak ? :-) ours isn't going on til November, we have LOTS of hot water bottles!

I don't usually put ours on until my frugal minded friend caves in and puts hers on first. Well it looks like I have a new "don't put your heating on yet buddy" The challenge is on my fair Tumpty!!! xxx

I do have a wood burner which doesn't count as 'putting the heating on' :-)
  • Soooooooooooooo glad that at 64, I'm still having hot flushes!:T

    xx
  • I have a confession. I am a guilty lurker.

I joined this thread way back in January!!!! and haven't posted. Had a couple of probs, mainly with communication following an accident. (not as bad as it sounds) So all I have been doing is reading the posts.

So decided to take the plunge. Frugality here I come..... Again.

No heating on. We have jumpers and fleeces and hotwater bottles if we get cold. (just come back from holiday and I am Bl****y cold)

DS back to college, carefully counting his change out and working out that it wouldn't be cheaper for him to get a weekly bus pass this time, I think he saved about 50p but, its his 50p:D

I could do with joining the lose half a stone challenge, esp after the holiday:o

I have been to shops and not bought salad, decided I would have peas with my pasta bake at tea time. So no money spent here.

If I lose the half stone, last autumns/winters clothes will fit me better. When I have washed the holiday gear I shall do the wardrobe shuffle and put the summer stuff in vacuum bags, that way I will be able to see if there is anything that I really need for winter. (Usually it was really what I wanted for winter) it has taken me nearly 50 years to work out the difference:rotfl:

Well off to do my week plan. (I work and study at home and I am not very disciplined otherwise)
My finances are work in progress.
    Normal veiwing will resume shortly
  • has anyone heard from Lola

I'm here! (Smiling a big cheesy smile)

Sorry for my wee outpour the other day, thank you for all ur msgs.... thankfully I didn't cry myself to sleep, the drink (half a btl) calmed me down enough to sleep....

We had words later, he genuinely didn't realise he had upset me, said that I had scared him when I said I didn't think he could make it up to me, and I walked away after saying it (I was working at this bit) . He told me later, when I dropped him home when I finished that he's really into me, wants everything , marriage, house, kids, and all the rest, and is struggling to 'go slow' and not scare me off..... so at least I know where I stand lol (I'm also struggling to go slow, but I do have son first in my priorities that does help me not to move him in/run away with lol)

Home front... my kitchen ceiling had came through a year ago, insurance said it would cost me £450 due to it being water damage (son put plug in and taps on, yet the water had bn shut off as work was getting done outside, came hone to a waterfall in the kitchen) ... dad has pulled it down and git plaster board up, he will come back to artex it (is that what I mean? Hmm dunno) whilst he was here, he has put in the washing machine that he gave me last Nov,(bigger drum to get quilts in) and installed my cooker, mines only had 1 ring working, oven was great, grill didn't work :( , so got one for £40 off a friend, its got in my way for weeks... I'm not too keen on it, but as it all works, I can't complain really...
I'm sorting out my room, haven't slept their for over a year, yep my hoarding is that bad! Kim n aggie would have a fab time with me - must insist, my house us messy, but clean. Their is no storage in here apart from the loft, which I hate going in...
I'm currently baking a pasta bake to see how the oven goes... and have made half shepherds pie for back up/tomorrows dinner, it just needs mash on top, will need to buy potatoes...

Made rice pudding yesterday in my slow cooker, first time ever making that and it tasted amazing, just like primary school... my son wasn't too keen on it... but he did eat some with jam....

At the moment I don't have any heating :( or hot water :( I turned my boiler off for dad to fix the ceiling, and now its giving me a red light when j put it on... checked my user guide and looks like I'll need to get a professional in :(
It's not too cold during the day, just at night if I'm watching tv, and really cold in morning... have a few water bottles and loads of blankets.... and a kettle for dishes and getting washed. Going to ask the guy round the street to come check it for me, but the rooms need to be sorted b4 I do that... don't want him thinking all sorts any me!

This heating war sounds good, I may keep mine off til Jan, for the deep freeze or the first fluttering of snow.... don't know what's with the weather just now, its cold, wet and windy today, couldn't see the road for rain and the wind is gaelforce! Or ...

Oh cheat idea... my oven open, and still on, nice wee heat ... will close in 10mins... lol

Good luck with the jobcentre, I hate going, even if its just to make sure everything is correct and my loan parent review, which isn't that often now im a student.... don't fone them up, they are way worse than in person!

Evening everyone - I have beem pottering along here, trying ot to spend any cash! I got DH to put together a spread sheet in excel with our budget and cash flow and everything. I have now thought of a load of extra categories so will get him to put those in.
I am still waiting for the builders to finish and go away. We're basically skulking in the basement and indoor camping. Only when they've more or less finished inside can we unpack stuff from our bedroom and set up again. I feel so tired about it all now although it has meant that we've had a very simple life recently.
It's still nice and warm here and I don't expect to put on the heating until October at least, particularly if we have our chimney up and running quite soon.
I need to do a lot of rubbish dumping tomorrow (the tip is only open on Wednesdays and Fridays - anything to make the place look a little bit more organised!
    Trying to keep in budget.

Our heating isn't on either yet - though it is cold enough for it to be on! I just refuse :D
