Hi all, I spaved yesterday and day b4 at morrisons - laundry liquid 1/2 price (I'm not up to making it, yet), and also borlotti beans, toms and chickpeas all 25p. Glad I have a shed now to put them in. Also lots of Indian stuff cheap, Pakistani vernichelli, gram flour ect, I think due to new ethnic section. I was very happy.

Btw... Why oh why are there more fabric conditioners on sale than actual washing stuff? I just don't get it.

I definately want to do the four month challenge. Also want to do a few things that I want to do.

Finished my temp job today. Working Sunday, doing my other casual work. Pretty good pay for the hours required.

Sending hugs to those who need them.

    Hello fellow frugallers:j
    Hugs to all!

Still no news on the job front here but I think I probably need to be a little more patient:o Did put in another application yesterday but am not finding a lot that's suitable online. Is this something others have found? Will sign up with some more agencies in the next town next week to cast the net a little wider.

We had a jolly today here at GBT- dug out the NT [for Scotland as cheaper:rotfl:] and went over to Scotney Castle. It was gorgeous and all the better for not having cost us £35 which it would have done if we weren't members:eek:
I am now the proud owner of a purple set of fingers due to me stripping elderberries off their stalks. I picked them yesterday and am planning to freeze them. Later on I'm going to have a bash at making a batch of cough mixture with them so we're prepared for the winter. Other frugal experimentation this weekend will consist of dyeing old shirts from fabric stash with tea and then hopefully using them to make the cushion for the owl I've finished when my crafting chum joins me on Monday evening.

We have a local food festival in the town tomorrow with lots of free samples- think I might just pop along:rotfl::rotfl:

PS In the name of frugal research I discovered some leftover pitta breads lurking in the breadbin- in the spirit of frugal pioneering we cut them into strips and fried them in veg oil and had with our tea rather than the hm chips I had planned. Very nice they were too!

It is always best to register with a few agencies and to keep phoning them up. What type of work for you looking for?

  • Good luck Aril on the job hunt.

I've had the sh*tt*est day ever, excuse my French.
I got my son ready in his kilt, for a wedding that for all intents and purposes, should have been mine....(now I did not want to marry the useless git, but I can't help feeling a little 'off' abt this, and I had bn fine till I dropped son at his grandparents,) so I arranged a babysitter, went out and bought some cheap, but new things to wear, got friends at the ready to go out and party, like I did pre- motherhood ... new guy calls , telling me all abt his horrible day, so I offer to cancel my night out with the girls, that I barely see, to go out with him, explain that I will b down at 10, after my meeting... I have 'words' with my parents, or more to the point, they let me know how much of a failure I am, how much of a bad mother I am, all because I have depression and the house is a tad messy (gee thanks, if I wasn't feeling like crap already, I am now!)
he fones to ask me to bring him cigs, oh how I detest cigs! so I do. I get to the pub, which is abt 2/3 miles away from his, to pick him up, 2 hours later, me on an irn bru as I have still to drop my car off (u have to walk through woodland to get to his, and no taxis here if I would have dropped car off n walked back) and its last orders, he had bought me drink to take home b4 I got their, I had repeatedly asked him to leave, and after I went to the toilet, he insulted me, (I don't think he realises that he has) and I left, I got in the car, and I started to seeth, I gave him 5 mins to follow me out, and he had, so I went to his, hd apologise in the car, but he doesn't see that he's done anything wrong, but I couldn't drink, it was nearly midnight, so didn't see the point. I went to bed, and 2 mins later he came in and was asleep before me! So I have bn lying in bed, feeling really sorry for myself, then getting annoyed at myself for feeling sorry for myself and then he snores and I get worse. The reason I didn't just drive home to begin with is, if I done that, then for me its over. I know I won't even give him the time of day again if I leave, so I have now gotten up, opened a btl of wine and a can of lemonade (can't drink wine on its own) and I'm going to most likely drink myself to sleep, on the couch, alone, crying at how messed up I am, and he hasn't even realised I'm not in bed and haven't bn for a while now!

Only good thing abt this is, I haven't spent any money. Can't wait to get home and just cuddle up with my boy.

I'm soo sorry, this has turned into more than just a rant!

Aril - I should have said in my previous post that it is best to phone the agency once a week. All the best in the job hunt.

Lola, I'm single until I can learn to put myself.first cos I would have done what you did and it makes me miserable. Go easy on yourself, single mums rock, I know cos I am one too. It's not easy but its better than being in a bad relationship. Please find some ways to be kind to yourself, long bath, huge bar of chocolate, walk in the park, read a good book...put yourself first for the time you can before you get your son back home because then he will come first. Which is why I think we need to be careful of putting more peoples needs before our own as it is quite easy to slip into third and fourth place which is not good for self esteem and leads in my experience to more depression.
  • Thanks LolaLemon, i would not have a clue, so i will start next year with a number - not too long till then, and will just pick up some tips in the meantime. Sorry to hear your depressed. I find sometimes, though I have to really pull myself up by the boots, cleaning helps clear the mind and the more organised you get the easier it becomes. Lovely cakes.

DizzieLizzie - thanks for the alcohol links - well I just gotta make me some of that toffee vodka. Thanks for the link, here is a link for any other interested parties I found. http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-toffee-vodka
  • Oh Lola - so sorry you've had such a horrible time. Just remember all of us on here are on your side. Have a (((((hug)))))...

What I came on to say is, re the HM laundry powder, for the soap content I finely grate those really cheap "basics" soap bars, about 15p each or something. One does enough for several washes. Cheaper and better than packets of soap flakes - dissolves more easily.
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
